IDK his goal production took a dramatic drop-off in the 2nd half. 17 goals in his first 37 games, just 5 the remaining 44.
Just looking for cheaper options than the big guys. Might do decent w Zacha or Mittelstadt as his pivot. I'm petrified of July 1

take as old as time of a desperate team and gm trying to save their jobs

You’re missing two important pieces of that trade - William Zellers and a 2nd rounder from Colorado. Yes, Mittlestadt’s contract is an additional year compared to Coyle but the cost is really for that extra year as he’s only $500K more than Coyle next year. The cost of taking Middlestadt was Zellers and a decent pick, I don’t think you can bash Sweeney for that.
That was a good trade.

Zellers was named player of the Year in the USHL,

I don't have much use for CM. Perhaps on the fourth line. If I could move him along with something else and get decent return, I would.

Did someone do that?

If so, it's beyond silly.

Sacrilegious is the word that comes to mind.

They posted the stat lines of Marchand's first 20 games in the NHL vs. Lysell's. Which is silly, because everyone knows Marchand's start wasn't eyepopping. It was the next 20 games when he transformed from a 4th line pest to an "attached-at-the-hip" to Patrice Bergeron winger for the next decade+.

Real good chance Bennett turns back into the pumpkin he was in Calgary.
Maybe not a pumpkin but I agree a big regression is likely. He is probably in the best number 2 spot in the league being sheltered by Barkov and even Lundell when it comes to match ups. His only job is to smash people and put the puck in the net, he's gonna have a lot more responsibility in any other destination except maybe Edmonton.

Ok. Maybe it’s not as bad as it looks?

July 1st you Go after the top guns for whatever it takes (like Chara, Marner, etc) or you go for 2-3y value or overpaying 1y deals. Overpaying middelguys long term is never good buiseness unless it is the missing link for cup contention or you have a window to do it.

Say no to long term expensive deal to Boeser/Ehlers/etc this summer.
