Boston Bruins Off Season Roster/ Cap Discussion II

I heard a crazy rumour today that has Boston sending Mittelstadt ( no retention ) to the Rangers for Zibanejad ( no retention ) and the 43rd pick in the upcoming draft. I would hope that the Bruins would want no part of Zibanejad as his $8.5 million cap hit for 3 more seasons is way too much for adding just an early 2nd pick.

Plenty to like in the CHL alone if you can swindle a mid-late first

EDIT: Zibanejad actually has 5 more seasons left with an $8.5 million cap hit. Stay away Donny.......stay far away. :thumbd:

Also, $6 mil. for the useless Mittlestadt. I’d consider something creative to get rid of him. What a dumb trade. I actually had no idea how bad until I checked his salary. Terrible player and grossly overpaid. Thanks for that little gem, Donny.

From a user of the website PuckPedia’s PuckGM tool?

That sounds like a sweeney trade and contract.

So we'd go from a guy whose averaged 16G/52P over the last 3 seasons, to a guy whose averaged 28G/75P over the last 3 seasons for a 2nd round pick? For the next two seasons it'd be an extra $2.75 million from what Mittelstadt is currently on the books for.

I mean, I don't hate it. Pretty sure Mika has been on record though saying he has no intentions of waiving his NMC and that he wants to remain with the Rangers.

Read somewhere Zib has sold his real estate in NY, but what do I know. Not a fan of signing 30plus players but you are losing Middlestadt contract and that would be a gain, you are getting a better player, and also receiving a second rd pick. I think if this rumor is true the Bruins should not hesitate., Zib has been a very good player in his career and is better than anything you have at that position.

So, for example, signing Knies would likely require the Bruins give up two 1sts, a 2nd and a 3rd round pick - all of which would need to be their own picks and not acquired from another team.

You’re missing two important pieces of that trade - William Zellers and a 2nd rounder from Colorado. Yes, Mittlestadt’s contract is an additional year compared to Coyle but the cost is really for that extra year as he’s only $500K more than Coyle next year. The cost of taking Middlestadt was Zellers and a decent pick, I don’t think you can bash Sweeney for that.

I watched some Rangers games this year not enough to really give a knowledgeable opinion but the games I did watch Zib seemed like a shell of what he once was and at least in the games that I watched was a big reason why the Rangers regressed. I don’t want the guy I saw last year.

I would hope that you get what he has always been, I think that team was very dysfunctional last year and the finger could be pointed to Chris Drury, really hurt that team with his "letting the cat out of the bag" type management skills. I think all that went on with the Bruins off season was a contributor with how their season went and more importantly started out.

we traded a declining asset (Coyle) with one year left on his deal, for a relatively useless roster player (Mittelstadt) with two years left on his deal for $500k of incremental cap cost in order to acquire a second and Zellers. To then turn around and trade that useless roster player for another declining asset with FIVE years left on deal and $3.25m of incremental cap cost versus the original declining asset seems like extremely poor asset management...and exactly the kind of deal Sweeney might make.

That assumes it would be a 5yr deal. If the Bruins Bruins wanted to try and go longer, it'll cost them more.
