Poitras + two 2nds for Howard + Geekie maybe, but no way am I giving up Poitras for him alone lol. Geekie ain’t going anywhere sadly.
Matthew's status is murky to me now. They have yanked him around so much, it wouldn't surprise if his confidence has taken a significant hit. At this point, it might be best to move him for something you need and can utilize immediately. He's my binky, but...

He is better than I first thought, but still a tweener. I think he gets a spot on next year's very, very mediocre team. He is a good fit for that type of team.

I guess I look at it like this: do I want to try to sign a player in his prime for a talent-starved team that has been 6th in ppg in the regular season and 23rd ppg in the playoffs over the past 5 years? Yes, 100% without question. Am I worried about the money? It's a factor but not really. He's an elite talent.
No it doesn't grow on trees, but I don't know why anyone is concerned about the money.

They have the money. And it would instantly make them better. To me it's a no-brainer.

As Evan Maranofsky and Conor Ryan noted recently, there is no middle class in the NHL.

At this point, it's a lot of entry level contracts and very rich contracts. With the cap going up, there's a lot of money floating around.

Signing Marner should not be a question of money. Or even term, provided it isn't ridiculous.

What if they bring in Marner and some others for an instant upgrade? Matthew could play third line minutes.

But the way they have treated him, I don't know what happens going forward. Maybe he would like a fresh start elsewhere.

I guess anything is possible.

But why would Howard want to come to Boston during a retool of indeterminate length?

Howard will have plenty of superior options. He wants to play NHL minutes. He should play for an NHL team.

The Bruins are not a very good NHL team as of today.

That can change quickly. But it would have to change prior to any offer to Howard. I'm not sure the timing would work in Boston's favor.

Bruins have worst roster in league I been reading so he has best opportunity

I am thinking spot second line duty ....
With CM taking most of those minutes? I would trade him too if I could do it. But they have nothing save a draft selection relative to the center position. I don't know that Matt is a second C at this point. A really good third line center. CM would be an adequate third line center.

But is someone said, actually a few people have said in the media, their center position strikes no fear in anyone's heart.

That is why as they wait for the cavalry to arrive, which won't be the case for at least a few years, they need to build up the wing as spectacularly and as solidly as possible.

Master of the Obvious says, they can do that. They have the money to do it. They can get Marner and perhaps more.

They can get the scoring they need through the trade market or free agency. That's the easiest way to go.

I hate ,hate hate, hate CM, so I hope that is not the case, but with these idiots it is possible.
As for Marner, I see your point, and you may be right. (It may be akin to the Red sox sending away three really good prospects at positions of need for an average number two starter instead of getting a better pitcher with just money.) However, I think the questions about Marner are legitimate.

Because he already learned that he didn’t have a spot on a contender, and he doesn’t have much of a say where his rights go. Sweeney should talk to his agent before a potential trade.

I realize he has underwhelmed, but why the emphatic hate for CM?

As for Marner, who turns 28 on Monday, I am aware of the criticism,

which is doubtless valid but must be tempered by an understanding of the absurd fishbowl that is Toronto media & fans.

Evidently, Marner plays a strong defensive game

One imagines this development did not go down well with the player,

My limited knowledge of Marner is that he is intelligent and shrewd enough to drive a hard bargain and get what he believes is fair market value for his talents and impressive offensive production,

So, you have something of a mercenary on your hands unlikely to sign up for that (in)famous Bruins specialty, the "hometown discount." Sentimental, it seems, he is not.

All things considered (particularly ownership's demand for consistent playoff gate) I would give him what he wants, instantly and perhaps dramatically upgrading a mediocre roster into post season contention.

Along with bolstering a very incomplete defense, to me bringing Marner aboard is, again, the fastest track back to relevance.

They have the money 💰.

They just have to pony 🐴 it up.

Time will out.

I'm not holding my breath.

The UFA pool is pretty bad, I like Fabbro or Perbix maybe, and roll the dice on Daniel Sprong PTO. Would take a flier on Alexander Holtz from Vegas in a trade.

I don't want big money on anyone. Re Up Geeekie (will get 6 mil now) and Re Up Lohrei.... Marat....Those kinds.

CM is an ultra, super mega-floater who got this far on good hands and speed that he only shows every fifth or sixth shift. I think the league has figured him out. My guess is he will be a disaster and shipped out for very little very quickly.

I have about the same take on Marner as you, except I think his defense is average at best. I am not a big fan of mercenaries and think the D needs several upgrades.

They get Marner in the fold and if things go well with this years 1sr rounder, we could be looking at a team with three 90+ point forwards, possibly as early as 27/28.

Hell, they could have two 115+ point guys and a 70 point guy by 26/27 if the kid progresses quickly.

While that doesn’t guarantee a cup, provided your defense and goaltending isn’t a disaster, it puts you in the mix.

Going all out for Marner is a no brainer.

Wow Sprong comes up all the time...
Just say no

I don't know much about cm, but you're probably right.

If you read some of the stuff that I sent along, the links, you'll see that Marner led the league in takeaways. He is apparently defensively responsible, especially for high scoring creative talent.

As for mercenaries, I'll take him because they have no options. Unfortunately, these are not Zdeno Chara's Boston Bruins.

It's mercenary time. Embrace it. Otherwise, your local club will be stuck in the mud, if not reverse, for quite a while.

Do you want to watch that? I don't. I don't care enough anymore with those two morons at the helm, and a clueless Charlie Jacobs blessing their every move in blissful ignorance.
