Off Season Move(s) Thread

Yes, that same thought about him being a winger rather than a center crossed my mind. At the same time, an uncovered player on the ice is still an uncovered player on the ice. BG and JH do not like poor defenders. If they think he can outscore his poor defense, then I guess that’s another story.
If you check out Peterka’s underlying numbers in 23-24, they seem to indicate he can play some level of average defense.

I like a top like like this too:

Kap-Ek-Peterka
Boldy-Nelson-Zuccarello
Ohgren-Yurov-Hartman
Foligno-Gaudreau-Trenin

Having Ek stapled to Peterka may free him up to excel.
I like the idea of

Kap-Ek-Peterka
Ohgren-Nelson-Boldy
Zuccarello-Yurov-Hartman
Foligno-Gaudreau-Trenin

Kap/Boldy are both shooters and playmakers. Have them drive their lines.

This is part of the reason I wonder if there is smoke to moving Rossi to wing. It gives versatility in case of injuries at center or if Yurov doesn’t pan out.
I think it would make sense to move him to wing for that versatility but it feels far too much like BG just does not want him. Doesnt make any sense why given his progression unless they feel he is maxed out.

The nice thing is that you can make about 15 line combinations & not hate any of them. It’ll be even better the following season when we don’t have to find a spot to force Zucc into.

Do we just make it Cirelli and be done with it?

-Only lose 4 years and ~4 months (Cirelli turns 28 in July, Rossi turns 24 in November).
-Same draft as Kaprizov and Ek.
-Take a hit offensively (45-60 points vs. possible 55-70) but gain in all-around game and PK.
-Cost certainty for the next 6 seasons (6 x $6.25M remaining).
-21st in PK TOI over the last 3 season, 22nd in PK GA/60 (>200 minutes) right next to Seabass Aho who I think people peg as a pretty good/possibly great PKer.
-50% face-offs (decent PK face-offs, probably top 35-40 for guys >150 FO's over the last 3 years; not too far off Kopitar, for example).

Cirelli would be an amazing add for this team.

We don't have the wingers to run Cirelli and Ek as our top two centers and be as good as people want us to be.

JEE/Cirelli/Nelson/Yurov/Hartman/Freddy would be one hell of a C depth chart. I like the idea of adding another premium TWC to pair with JEE. Next best thing to having a 1C IMO.

Not sure JEE and Cirelli at $11.5M disqualifies from finding someone to put above them.

Perhaps, but my vote is to use Rossi to catch a bigger fish and then find a 3C another way, rather than using Rossi to find a 3C and trying to catch a bigger fish another way.

That’s my vote too, but we’re currently talking about Peterka, so seems like other options are on the table.

I think Peterka is a higher end player than Cirelli. I see him having 80+ point potential. That would be the type of winger depth we need without having a high end center.

Probably is, but I’m not really believing in it while his D game is rumored to be such shit. Not our style.
