Off Season Move(s) Thread

I know it's hard to tell sometimes, especially after my comment earlier about Ek+ for Hayton, but that last post actually wasn't sarcasm lol
Imagine trading EK + for Barrett Hayton lol

I see a lot of big names being thrown out there as returns for Rossi. Hope it happens, but I just don’t see it. I think the return will be one, potentially two younger player(s) with potential and/or draft pick or two depending on the rest of the deal components. It’s going to be a young player still on their ELC or an RFA with potential who they can sign for the $5M or less they offered Marco. I think one of two things happens.

1. We are going to sign Nelson for the center position and the trade for Rossi will bring us a winger. It’s not gonna be on the level of Paterka. I’m thinking someone in the vein of Tyson Foerster and multiple picks.

Or

2. We trade Rossi for a center and spend the money on a winger such as Boeser, Ehlers or someone else. The trade return at center will still be a younger player who won’t break the bank plus a pick or two. Pie in the sky would be McTavish or McLeod, but someone like Krebs, Wright, Mercer or Cates seems more likely.

Given Guerin’s history and the current trade rumblings, I think a straight up trade of Rossi for Peterka is what’s going to happen.

Feels like a “change of scenery” trade for both teams, even though the players don’t really need one. We won’t really get any cap savings from this & the production is probably going to be similar. However, I think this is the best case scenario for us if Guerin is set on moving Rossi.

Then you sign either Nelson or Boeser (depending on where Hartman/Yurov are playing).

Kap - Yurov - Zucc
Boldy - Ek - Peterka
Ohgren - Hartman/Nelson - Boeser/Hartman
Foligno - Gaudreau - Trenin

If the book on Peterka is accurate, that he plays little to no defense, then I can’t imagine BG and JH trading for a player who only shows up on one end of the ice….unless it is a bigger trade and we get something else along with Peterka. It is just counterintuitive to everything they seem to believe in as hockey guys.

I think there could be some real talks between the two organizations, but I personally don’t think that Thompson and Peterka is what is being discussed. I think Tuch and McCleod is more likely/realistic.

With the added scoring depth I’d love to see that top line stay intact:

Kaprizov-Ek-Boldy
Ohgren-Nelson-Peterka
Hartman-Yurov-Zuccarello
Foligno-Gaudreau-Trenin

A lot of flexibility in the middle 6 here until we find some chemistry. Not the biggest fan of the Wild signing Nelson but I like this lineup…

Russo said something along the lines of the Wild are “very interested” in Peterka in the worst seats pod that came out today.

This is going to sound weird, but this lineup almost has too many shooters. Could use a playmaker like Granlund to distribute.

I've been banging the Rossi for Peterka drum (if it has to happen) for a while, so let's make it happen.

Kaprizov-Nelson-Zuccarello
Peterka-Eriksson Ek-Boldy
Foligno-Yurov-Hartman
Öhgren-Gaudreau-Trenin
Hinostroza

Zuccarello is an ugly black mark on that lineup but the rest of it looks okay enough. Team isn't competing for a Cup but maybe it goes to game 7 of the first round.

That top line makes me wanna vomit. Kap deserves better.

I know he has been talking about this a lot, and Lord knows he has way more connections than I do, so I’m sure Russo is right. But I also know that many of the reasons why they are unhappy with Rossi sure seem to be some of the same things they’re gonna get with Peterka. It just does not make sense to me in that regard. Now, if I can swap Rossi for McLeod in some form of deal, I’m interested. McLeod is a bigger center, a better defender, plays on the PK, is 26 years old who also can score, that makes much more sense to me. I don’t know why Buffalo would do that, but if I could do that deal, I could get my scoring winger elsewhere.

Which are?

I think it helps that Peterka is a winger, where defense is less important overall than at the center position.

I think it falls under how they view center vs wing. The two positions play differently and that may allow different wants and expectations for each roll for each position.

Yes, that same thought about him being a winger rather than a center crossed my mind. At the same time, an uncovered player on the ice is still an uncovered player on the ice. BG and JH do not like poor defenders. If they think he can outscore his poor defense, then I guess that’s another story.

This is part of the reason I wonder if there is smoke to moving Rossi to wing. It gives versatility in case of injuries at center or if Yurov doesn’t pan out.

I like a top like like this too:

Kap-Ek-Peterka
Boldy-Nelson-Zuccarello
Ohgren-Yurov-Hartman
Foligno-Gaudreau-Trenin

Having Ek stapled to Peterka may free him up to excel.
