Off Season Move(s) Thread

What exactly is the proof that Barzal can play center well? That seems to be lost in this entire conversation.
Him doing it for 6 seasons.

You seem to be stuck on 'Horvat being a better center ='s Barzal is a bad center'.

If we somehow would've brought in Rantanen, it wouldn't have been because we thought Boldy sucked.

What is the proof he can't?
You don't have an answer because you have zero proof he can play center well

1. Barzal sucks ass at faceoffs
2. His team pretty blatantly avoided putting him out for faceoffs while he was positioned at center
3. His team went out of their way to trade for a center with the sole purpose of moving Barzal to wing
4. Barzal's corsi against numbers are significantly worse during his center years, whereas he is top 3 on the Islanders during his winger seasons.

Can you provide proof he has played center "well" in the last 5 years?

The Rantanen/Boldy comment is such a poor representation. You do realize that centers have a different role with different responsibilities than wingers, right? You also realize that there are 2 top 6 center spots as compared to 4 top 6 winger spots, right?

You're literally only asking me because you tried to claim he couldn't, then your proof that he couldn't turned out to not be proof that he couldn't, and you don't have any other proof that he can't.

You made the claim that he can't do it, prove it or shut up.

I see, so no proof he can play center well then? I’m not surprised.

From the 2017-18 season through the 2022-23 season, playing as a center:

71 points per 82 games (50 ES points per 82) over 418 games played.

5v5
51.69 CF%
52.24 SF%
55.63 GF%
51.78 xGF%
51.62 SCF%
52.53 HDCF%
1.011 PDO

Again, playing his high majority of 5v5 time with Josh Bailey, Anders Lee, Jordan Eberle, Andrew Ladd, Zach Parise and Anthony Beauvillier.

Oh, and his team made the ECF's twice with him as the #1C, posting extremely similar advanced numbers in those two playoff runs.

But, alas, the face-offs.

You’re not showing me things that prove he is good at the duties required of a center. You’re showing me he is good at playing offense, which was never in question (hence why I would take him on the team as a winger).

Why don’t you tell me what you view as duties required of a center? Clearly we disagree on those since you just blatantly ignore the points I’ve given.

Meanwhile, I won’t be waiting on you to show proof that is he good at those duties. Can’t expect someone to find something that doesn’t exist.

Actually, all of those advanced stats are 50% offense and 50% defense.

Don't let being a Minnesota Wild fan fool you, offense actually is important for top 6 centers.

This whole faceoffs vs points thing kinda reminds me of the mystery box argument. Why take 80 points and 40% faceoffs when you can take 50 points and 50% faceoffs. Those extra faceoff wins could translate into 30 more points! Wait...
