How is Barzal a fit…?
Mostly these 3 things:

Playmaking-oriented, similar to what Kaprizov has been used to with Zuccarello.

Puck carrying/possession player. Can ease the heavy load that Kaprizov is relied on in that department.

Great skater, would have no problem keeping up with Kaprizov in straight-line situations or anything requiring agility.

So, he will play the wing opposite of Kaprizov?

I'm not sure Zuccarello is the best type to look at for a fit with Kaprizov. He's even better with Boldy and was looking better to start last season with Rossi. Both of those guys were doing a lot of damage around the net. Not sure Barzal is that guy.

Thompson and Barzal play wing because they cannot win faceoffs. Look at their numbers. They make Rossi look good in the dot.

I’m down for targeting Thompson, but if they idea is so he can play 1C… Not what we need there.
Tage makes Rossi look good on the dot too....

I never said Barzal wasn't a fit. The other two are accurate.

The Peterka take is blatant hyperbole on your part. Not even sure what to say to that.

You also have to consider that Matthews, Thompson, Pettersson and Barzal are very likely not available, and Peterka is actually somewhat realistic.

Totally agree. Peterka and McLeod are the two pieces that interest me the most from Buffalo with considerations to cost and level of player.

I know. My hope is the organization does not share the same belief considering all of our centers suck at faceoffs.
The list of centers that scored 70+ points, took 800+ face-offs and won 52%+ of them this year is 11 deep.

Ain't gonna get 7 of them (Draisaitl, Crosby, Barkov, Strome, Thomas, Matthews, Aho).

Probably don't want Miller.

Larkin... maybe...

Funnily enough, 2 are about to hit UFA (Duchene and Tavares). Could go get two 34 year olds instead of just the one.

Even more funnily enough, 2-3 more years of improvement and Rossi could very well join that list. Damn, there's that name again.

Barzal has taken ~450 draws over the last 3 seasons combined. That’s roughly 100 more than Boldy in the same time frame. None of the 3 seasons were above 43%. He’s not a center. Let’s not pretend that he is.

Centers I would check in with their team to see if they are available:

-Crosby (Guerin/Fleury ties)
-Larkin
-Cirelli
-Monahan
-O’Reilly
-McLeod
-McTavish
-Lindholm
-Hayton
-Pinto
-Karlsson
-Stenlund
-Raty
-Jenner

Edit: I guess Matthews too if there is even an inkling he might be available.

No thanks. I hear they start on fire if you rear end them

Zuccarello said he'll extend his contract if he feels ready for it, like he does now. But he'll not take a spot in the lineup just to play, he must really feel like he can still contribute and help the team win games. Sounds like the door will be open, and it's more up to him if he wants to stay longer or not.

He's very excited about next season, and with more cap space he thinks the Wild can become a real cup contender.
