Off Season Move(s) Thread

Lol... I take offense to this but since we always beat the shitty gophers in Football not so much
I don’t really have a problem with Iowa tbh, just not much to do down there. You guys are good people. At least the ones that support MN professional sports teams, much better than the bandwagoners that choose whatever dominate sport franchises are around them.

Talbot was pissed because they signed Fleury to an extension & pretty much made it apparent he was on the outs.

Not to mention they didn’t give him any shot in that playoff series. Guerin handled that situation so poorly, I don’t blame Talbot at all.

Exactly. Talbot signed in Minnesota to be a starter and then suddenly he is regulated to splitting duties and Guerin didn't really talked to him about it?

Kind of a bit hypocritical to mention Cole’s allegations that weren’t found to be credible when Guerin has had his own issues with being tied to misconduct.

Also the story is Cole came to Minnesota and realized the perception about the team had changed at that time.
Guerin has a pretty bad reputation for being an asshole imo.
Old school

Do the sabres need more LD? Genuine question.

Last 25
Iowa 20 wins
Gophers 5 wins

And your team chants Iowa Sucks at games we aren't involved in. Jealous much.
No. Other than those college teams, you don't have anything else.

I mean, you have a a few hills in one corner of your little area there, but the rest of the state is one giant dirt field.

Ah, but you know what is fun to do in Iowa?...Pack up and get the f*** out.

My former in-laws lived down there for a couple years. It was like the land that time forgot.

Also, the passing lane is a real thing.

Ask a Minnesotan about the passing lane?: 'Yeeeah. I guess I've heard of it. I don't have any idea how it works though.'

Ask an Iowan?: 'I have no idea what the words you're saying even mean. The passing what?'

I definitely don’t mind this roster, but I honestly don’t know if we really need to make any significant changes.

Maybe I’m falling into the definition of insanity where I’m starting to convince myself we should follow a similar path as the Fletcher years where we rely on “internal improvements” and evaluate the next season.

I really feel like this roster is close to something & I don’t think they need to bring in much (at least this offseason). I would make one big push for Marner & have Boeser as the fall back option.

I definitely would not move on from Rossi, unless we’re targeting Peterka/Tage OR we get Marner.

Rossi & Boeser should leave us with about $2M in cap space to accumulate over the season for any TDL acquisition. The following season, we’d have more than enough cap space to bring in another top UFA to replace Zucc.

25-26:

Kap - Rossi/Yurov - Zucc
Boldy - Ek - Boeser
Ohgren - Yurov/Rossi - Hartman
Foligno - Gaudreau - Trenin

Buium - Faber
Brodin - Spurgeon
Middleton - Jiricek

Gus
Wall

26-27:

$13-14M in cap space with the below roster:

Kap - Rossi - X
Boldy - Yurov - Boeser
Ohgren - Ek - Hartman
Foligno - Gaudreau - Trenin

Buium - Faber
Brodin - Jiricek
Middleton - Spurgeon

Wall
X

Obviously need to make a decision on goalie (Gus), but we’d have plenty of space to bring in another Top 6 forward (whether that’s through UFA or trade — I’d be dumping Trenin in this offseason & bringing in one of our ELCs for additional cap).

I think Brodin is a perfect fit there and their fans have acknowledged as much. Both he and Dahlin can & have played the right side. He could either babysit Power or form a dominant top pair with his countryman

Still think if we sign Nelson

Kaprizov - Nelson - Zuccarello
Boldy - Rossi - Yurov
Foligno - Eriksson-Ek - Hartman
Trenin - Gaudreau - Virus

That's be a pretty deep team with Yurov and Rossi flipping sometimes.

Once Zucc leaves

Kaprizov - Nelson - Yurov
Boldy - Rossi - FA
Ohgren - Eriksson-Ek - Foligno

Another pretty deep team

There's no way they're putting Rossi and Yurov on a line together. At least not intentionally.

Especially not with Boldy. You'll be neutering him having him play defense his whole shift. IF you want them on the same line, you need a very responsible 3rd, maybe Foligno?, to make up for their... inexperience at defense.

Guerin has already said that Yurov is playing center and he's already said that he's looking for a UFA center to help Eriksson Ek. Any lineup with Rossi at center (let alone on the team) is probably wishful thinking.

"I see him as a center.... just like any other young player, center's a very difficult position to play as a young player. We'd like to start him there and we'll see how he does and go from there," is what he said.

Wishful thinking is assuming that a kid with zero NHL experience of any kind is magically going to be better as an NHL center than a player with two full seasons (not Boeser seasons) under his belt.

I think there is a decent chance we see the BEEF line again. Especially if we acquire a Top 6 C to play with Kaprizov.

I didn't say that he'd start out better. I said that Guerin said that's where he's going to play to start out.

And when he inevitably flops as a rookie in a tough role in which he has zero experience, it's easy to see Rossi sliding back into that role where he has shown capability. What a drunk GM says on a video call over the summer is a lot different than what transpires in camp and in Game 1.

I wish someone would explain where this confidence that the team is trading a 60-point 23 year old under team control is coming from.

I don't want it to happen, but between the rumored lowball contract offer over the winter (5x5 when he was pacing for 70 points), the comments about finding help for Eriksson Ek in free agency, the comments about Yurov being a center, the usage most of the year (when lineup changes were made, Rossi was the one moved down the lineup), and the usage in the playoffs, it seems like the coach isn't a big fan of Rossi's, and it doesn't seem like the GM values him all that highly either.

We saw this type of scenario play out with Fiala where it was clear the coach didn't really trust him, Guerin dicked around with the contract stuff, and then he was traded.

Guerin also mentioned he wanted a top six scoring winger, and there has been rumor and speculation that he's going to be active in trading this summer.

So that's why it feels like they're going tot trade him.

This just feels like rearranging the same mid peices, respectfully. They need to add another real difference maker.

I wish I could understand the confidence that the team isn’t going to trade him. I’ll admit I’m mostly influenced by what Russo has been saying but Russo also thought Rossi was going to be traded before last season.

Rossi + Brodin is a big boy package. If we are moving them, do it for a C.

Wouldn’t mind going after Quinn but I think I’d pass on adding both of them.

If he is hell bent on trading Rossi, I hope he puts Yurov at 1C in Iowa and Rossi as 1C with Kap and Boldy so we can inflate the hell out of his numbers and then trade him with value. The current situation does is zero favors with all the negative speculation.
