Can't be serious...Johansen is approximately 1000% the player Ribeiro was. The only similarity is that they are pass first players.
The Dallas Stars version of Mike Ribeiro was a pretty fantastic (and dynamic) player, who incidentally put up goal totals of 18, 27, 22, 19, 19, and 18 (Johansen has put up 3 seasons with 15 or more goals). It's not nearly as unfavorable a comparison as you want to make it out to be. I'd say Marc Savard, but Johansen doesn't score enough goals or points to be worthy of that comparison.

Joey is surprisingly fast and looks more lazy than he actually is.

The sooner we realize we have an $8M/year Mike Ribeiro with better goal-scoring ability and less character issues, the less frustrated we will all be (well, outside of the notion of paying a Mike Ribeiro $8M per year). That peg has grown up to be a square (despite earlier flashes), he's not gonna fit in that round hole.

Uhh did Ribs even know the first letter in the word defense? Did Ribs ever win a face off?

I mean, the complaints are about his behavior on the offensive end. It was a semi-throwaway analogy for his offensive play (he actually reminds me a bit of Jason Allison with his two-way play, but I don't think he'll get the 20+ goal numbers again). I don't even have any issues with Johansen's play (he's on pace for one of his best statistical seasons despite not having his linemates for half the season).

Funny I think I read something about teams that go to the Stanley Cup finals and lose end up winning the Presidents trophy miss the playoffs the next year a pretty high percentage of the time

The Lightning did it a few years ago. They had the absolute worst injury luck I can remember.

Or dominate Toews and Kesler in a playoff series?

He can raise his game to another level which is why I think most put up with his lazy play, at times, during the regular season.

I'm not saying the guy needs to be Arvy but he has far too many stretches of lethargic play during the regular season. I will always knock him for that.

well looks like Sissons headed to IR. hope that ankle was just turned and not broken.

ever get the feeling this just might not be our year?

Hopefully it just means our guys will be back healthy and well rested for the playoffs.

I get that the goal total looks ugly but if Johansen has two 35 goal wingers we are probably still getting our money's worth.
As long at that line has 80+ goals combined it really doesnt matter what the distribution is.

Actually if the injuries all hit now and we are fully healthy in April, that wont be all that bad. We might be a 2 or 3 seed in the Central, but we know that making the finals from a lower seed is doable

I just want him to score some goals because we need more production from him in that category. We are paying him to be that 80 point guy.
I think we need to revise expectations. He's not going to be that, and if he is, it's on the back of a 65-70 assist season, which also means Forsberg/Arvy would both have to be 35-40+ goals. I think he's more likely a 60-70 point player than the 55-65 points he's been getting with us, but with spikes (this year for sure if he keeps playing like he has) above that.

This week has been so bad I haven't even been able to bring myself to even read the boards until now.

Definitely a depressing time- being decimated by injuries and so shorthanded really sucks the fun out of everything.

With the injures we have had, it was completely inevitable that we were going to have some very rough stretches. And we have.

(I do think some are still overreacting- somehow expecting us to just continue on winning the way we always do- and that is just not going to happen)

So I fully expected us to have some really down times. This week, however, has been a disappointment- there is no doubt. We should not be losing back to back games to Ottawa and Chicago. And we dang sure should not have an 8 game road losing streak.

But having said that, even with this week's disappointment, overall we are still doing a good job of staying afloat- even though it really doesn't feel like it during a terrible week like this has been.

We are now 5-3-1 since Forsberg went out. I still maintain you can't ask for much more than that. And even that 9-8-2 record in last 19 is not that bad all things considered. With the lineup we are trotting out there most nights expecting anything more than .500 is probably unrealistic.

Having said all of that- when you factor in all of the adversity faced this year, and it has been a ton- the fact that we are still sitting here tied for the 2nd most points in the entire league is almost mind boggling to me. That is super impressive. If you told me in September all the stuff that has happened was coming and then you told me we would be at 22-11 right now? I would have never believed it.

Now- can we hang in there for a couple of more weeks until we (hopefully) get everyone back?? Not going to be easy........

I absolutely must find another hobby, cause this ain't helping me relax or enjoy myself one bit.

Hard to believe laviolette is so blind to the PP woes and his assistant coaches. I'm afraid Poile won't hold his feet to the fire, and he's just too comfortable here. I don't care about all the injuries, but the crappy ass PP, we will never do what the team could do in the postseason.

Yes, when i feel after a game, at least I didn't throw my remote thru the tv..........wasn't too much fun.

Watching the Coyotes/Habs game and Arizona just scored a PP goal with a quick point wrist shot through a simple screen. I sure wish we would try stuff like that. Fast to develop, nothing particularly complicated and high percentage of getting the shot through and on net. Sure, high chance of being swallowed by the goalie, but we're taking a minute to pass the puck around for a low percentage shot we can't even get on net.

Near where sand and waves meet.
This team has difficulty winning games where it doesn't score at least three goals. Crappy PP, the two best goal scorers out, one of our top four d-men out and we get the last couple of games with 2-1 losses.

The first month or two for an expansion team just getting to know each other these results aren't too embarrassing. New GM. new players, new coaches just getting it together .... it will work out eventually.

What?? This isn't an expansion team, it had the best record in the whole league last year. What's the matter with you???
