This isn't exactly a surprising fact, but one that I think a lot of people forget. Especially my generation of people, as I'm currently 30 and the Czech Republic and Slovakia have been seperate countries for as long as I can remember.

Anyway, guys like Jaromir Jagr, Martin Straka and Dominik Hasek played on the Czechoslovak national team together with guys like Zigmund Palffy and Jozef Stumpel at the World Juniors and/or Canada Cup in 1991 and 1992.

Only one team has a perfect all-time record at World Juniors. Bizarrely, they did not win the gold. Guess it and win my admiration.*

Patience was never my strong suit, so here's the answer: Team Czech-Slovak went 3-0 in their only World Juniors appearance, as Czechoslovakia formally dissolved on 1 Jan 1993, which fell in the middle of the tournament. Since there was no medal round and the medals were awarded on final standings, their losses to Finland and Sweden (as Czechoslovakia) dropped them to third overall.

Bonus obscure fact: Czechoslovakia was Team CIS' first opponent after the dissolution of the Soviet Union and won 5-2.

Tricky one. When I saw your question I thought about East Germany, CIS or one of the mid 90s versions of Yugoslavia, but completely forgot about Czechoslovakia.

As best as I can tell.. the Nagano Czech team only had 11 NHL players despite having over 49 NHL skaters and 3 NHL goalies.

Also, the 2010 World Championship team only had 3 NHL players on it actually playing. Michal Rosival, a very young Jakub Voracek and Tomas Vokoun in net. Our 4th was Ondrej Pavelec on the bench.

After 1995, first time Finland didn't have any of those players in the team in World Championships was 2011.

After 2011, first time Finland didn't have any of those players in the team in World Championships was 2019.

USSR won 9 in a row without NHL player. Try to beat it. :sarcasm:

yeah but during 60s 70s 80s 90s alot of nhl quality europeans played in euro league...thats not the case for 2000s....so sweden winning gold 2006 with only 5 nhlers and finland winning gold 2019 with no nhler 2019 is super impressing.

Fasth got schooled by Pasi Nurminen's tricks of where to shoot from. Fasth was a pretty good goalie, but had some glaring weaknesses which were evident for a goalie coach who kept sober for once :D

From 24 appearances at WC , Slovakia did not make quarterfinal 12 times. From last 10 WC tournaments Slovakia did not qualify to playoff 8 times...
