He's been good at the tourny, but Panarin at 50% good probably get you a little bit more than just Leonard. Adding the unprotected 1st you should get better than Leonard.

All for moving the unprotected 1st because we'll botch the ever living piss out of it anyway, but not attached to Panarin @ 50% to a division rival.

Also, Panarin ain't waiving to Washington. They're paper tigers and will get obliterated in the playoffs.

No way Washington takes on Panarin and gives up on Leonard. Washington has to start thinking about life without Ovechkin and Leonard is part of that future. Panarin would be like the 2nd coming of Alex Semin.

I think there was maybe 1 caps fan interested in this deal when it was proposed last month without the 1st rounder

I mean once you’re rebuilding/retooling who gives af? Don’t you just want the best return possible? Isn’t that pretty much why the return on Kakko was so paltry— they insisted on sending him out west?

OP must not follow NYR, because if he did he would know this only ends in Leonard deciding to move on and do something else with his life, the Caps winning the Cup again with Panarin, and the ping pong ball giving the #1 OA to Washington.

The deal doesn't look good. Neither in value nor fit department. Regardless of how high are you on Leonard, right now Panarin at half a salary and a 1st from a team that falls apart on the fly gives you MUCH more on the trade market. In pure value that's bordering on Kaprizov/Kucherov/Draisaitl territory. Also Panarin would not be a good fit in that locker room and on the ice. If you get a player of his stature you pretty much have to move every single winger that plays on his side of the ice down the lineup. Too much risk for what?
Caps need an upgrade on Mangiapane if you ask me, get Vrana into the lineup more often and be healthy on defense. That's pretty much it. If Leonard is that upgrade come spring time then they should stay put. But I'm still not sure about Leonard though
