General agreement overall, esp as to sentiment/conclusions, but a few points I disagree in part/to an extent.

"Even if Tampa slaps the shit out of the Rangers" -- I saw the if. TB is not gonna slap us. The Gs cancel each other out and 2 very good teams, could go either way. But they are not gonna "slap[] the shit out of" us.

"from what Rangers fans told me, Barron wasn’t being used properly in New York so no real loss there" -- correct NYR fans said that, correct he was not getting ice time b'c FO stupidly 'self rented' Strome, and setting aside any draft pick(s) in return, that + idiocy of keeping McKegg = reduced ice time for Chytil, Kravtsov and Barron. Hence I disagree w/"no real loss there" although I get you are talking about immediate actual vs potential. Barring injury, Barron will be good at min. Very good remains to be seen and star is waaaaaay too early to even think about going there, but he was an unnecessary loss at a thin position. I believe WPG + NYR could have agreed upon alternate compensation instead of Barron. So not end of the world, but unnecessary, and while Drury does deserve kudos along w/his counterpart, this misstep diminishes his performance here.

Copp is worth well over the 2nd surrendered, I just believe 1sts + 2nds, while not to be overvalued, should not be underrated either.

The thing here is realize this expense is all for a 1 shot. If NY wins the Cup, it was fully worth it. If not, the value of the experience needs to be weighed vs the cost of who can they keep/return going forward in the short term?

THIS YEAR and ONLY this season, NY is having its cake and eating it too, b'c Zib + Fox extensions do not kick in until next yr.
Figure Geo + Nemeth + Hajek + Strome are gone, w/recovery 1.5 Hank buyout = 11ish m which covers $$ for those 2.

Almost nobody can be traded due to nmcs, and in case of Goodrow, out of need, must be kept.
We are likely gonna have to deal Lindgren's 3 per x 2 just to scrape up cap $.
We need to extend certain rfas.
Then unfortunately Motte is probably not keepable, and Vatrano is a higher priority.
If we can't convince Trouba to waive for FL, and we will have to eat 2m there so he is a bargain at 6, where is the $$ to sign Copp?
And if Trouba goes, I still give him greater likelihood to return, but not as much of a slam dunk. Maybe he Copp follows his budd to the Panthers?

So no ? this was a smart deal, but there will likely be consequences after.
It’s a hypothetical — Tampa could sweep the Rangers like they just swept the Panthers but I’d still say a late 1st is worth it for the Rangers. Not saying that’s what I think is gonna happen, just saying that even if it did happen it’s still a good deal for the Rangers.

Good to hear about Barron, he looks like he’s gonna be a good player for us and just gravy on the trade if everything else works out.

I don’t have any musings on the cap situation for the Rangers because I don’t follow them.

Unless bought out, Nemeth will be on NYR cap next year a sno one is touching him with a 10foot pole.
And Trouba has ZERO reason to waive his NMC, ESPECIALLY sinc eveen at 6M$ he's overpaid, AND the fact none of the 2 FLA team can take him anyways due to their own cap situation (unless NYR also takes a contract back, which they can't)

Nice for the Jets to get the 2nd converted to a 1st. I have enjoyed watching the Rangers in the playoffs so far and hope Copp, Trouba and the Rangers continue to do well (even if it slightly devalues our draft rank compensation).

This truly is a win win for everyone. If there is a player Drury loves in the 1st rd at 28 the rangers have expendable assets to trade back into the first.

For the Jets they got the extra first they need. Not often you find a win win trade like this.

Unless Drury decides to resign Strome instead of Copp
IMO it's only win/win if the Rangers resign Copp. If they lose to the Bolts and Copp moves on it becomes win/short term win.

I'll give up a late first all day if it means seeing my team in the ECF and letting the young guys get more experience. The Rangers already have a solid farm even with the players that have graduated to the NHL. It'll be gravy for us if Copp re-signs. I'm hoping he does for around 5-5.5m instead of Strome personally.

The package (as it stands post conference finals berth) is a fair package to give up for a player that has come in and posted a point a game for 30 games during the teams most critical period of the season.

People shit on TDL acquisitions as not having much of an impact and here we have a player that HAS had a major impact and now folks are questioning the price? A late 1st in a top heavy draft?

This is a trade you make, hands down, every day of the week.

I think a lot of people are overrating the value of going from like pick 55 overall to like pick 30 overall. According to most pick value charts, that's only like a third or fourth round pick. It's great for the Jets, but not a huge impact for the Rangers, and definitely worth the cost of making the ECF

It is great value for the Rangers

It is just a good thing for us on a shitty season

Wtf are you on about? This has been his best year since he came into the league. He has been scoring points and has played super physical. His experience and his physicality have been huge for us.

Nemeth, I agree. But if we pay enough Arizona will take him, or someone else.

That's just silly. These trades are made giving up picks to go on deep runs and that's exactly what happened. If he re-signs it's just a bonus.
Who ever remembers what teams went deep in the playoffs? It's all about the Cup.

Chevy got taken to the cleaners on this trade.
Very late 1st, 2nd, and a young C we aren’t playing at C

Jets should get someone else to handle the trades

I mean Col and TB pushed in as well and for sure one won’t win the cup. Avs gave up 2 good prospect Dmen and a pair of 2nd round picks for a Dman and middle 6 F. TB gave up 2 future first and a couple of depth forwards for Hagel.

Still the right move to push in given their rosters.
