Confirmed with Link: NYR/VAN: Carson Soucy for 3rd Round Pick from VGK trade

Scouting report for those interested:

Soucy has been pretty up and down his entire career, one good year one bad year, which is why no team he's been with so far has been in love with him.

Last season he was very good pretty much all year performing like a solid #4, and this season he's been replacement level at best. So I'd say overall he's your average bottom-pairing defensive D-man.

Large but not physical or mean enough for his size. If he can keep his game quiet and simple he can put together stretches of good hockey.

Not great in terms of moving or skating the puck out and not much offense to speak of.

I don’t mind dru taking the chance on a guy a lot of people would’ve wanted the past 2 years. I hate that he’s giving up the 3rd from the vgk instead of nyr own 3rd but at least if he ends up being a bottom pair guy for nyr they can potentially flip him again for a 3rd in a draft that looks better than this year.

Soucy seemed inevitable. 3rd isn’t a big price. He hasn’t had his best year, but I’m willing to see what he’s got in the tank for us before judging. Big, tough guy.
He was good in the playoffs which is exactly why you get him. Just don’t play him more than bottom pairing and PK duties and he will be just fine. Wasn’t so great this year but maybe he can find his groove from last year. Good gamble.

A low price considering scarcity of defensemen available and the usual trade deadline premium. I'm curious about any past Borgen and Soucy have together, even if they weren't a permanent pair. Don't know, don't remember.

The draft pick being acquired and flipped makes me wonder if there's a defenseman being flipped (de Haan?) or if Jones is earmarked for a trade soon. I don't see a clear vision of Drury's intended depth chart yet.

This guy stinks so yeah tracks they would trade for him

No offense to speak of, can’t have more than one guy on defense who can score

He was very good for the Canucks last season, especially in the playoffs.

Name me one player having a good year in Vancouver this year?

He's your Ryan Lindgren replacement next year at $1.25M cheaper

Lindgren, Vesey, Reilly Smith for Parssinen, Brisson, Soucy, 2nd + 4th is good business by Drury.

I agree I think he can be better than Lindgren at better value if he plays like last year. A winning team can do wonders for performance and on a losing Canucks that’s harder to find.
