Fans are funny in their takes. They see what they want to see. If there is talk of someone they want out of the lineup being scratched, they'll see it whether the player actually sits out or not.

Another fan said EP25 has been badly outplaying Soucy. Soucy has been starting almost 70% of the time in the defensive zone, EP25 has been playing limited minutes against limited opposition and starting 72% of the time in the offensive zone. They are both -1 since EP25 played his first NHL game.

EP25 is looking good for a raw rookie and there is reason to be encouraged, but I find it hilarious how fans underrate the benefit of veteran experience and don't notice, even though the coach has clearly stated how he develops kids, that the kids don't get the same deployment as the vets.
I’m not sure why you are quoting me. You’re barking up the wrong tree.

Soucy didn’t want to waive. Has a young family. JTM had to sell him on NYC. Limited the options and decreased the value. Under these conditions satisfies with SJS’s 3rd.

Last year Soucy played well. Used his stick effectively to break up plays and was efficient in in getting the puck out of his zone. Passing was often excellent.

Then this year, he started well enough but then went straight into the toilet. Was miserable from mid-November on. Got banged up some so that might have contributed to the poor play.

If NYR gets the Soucy who played fine in Seattle, was good enough to get picked in the expansion draft and who did well in his first year in Vancouver, they should be happy.

Vancouver gets out of paying Soucy next year and increasing cap space heading into the up-coming trade deadline. Also the third - and the team has recently has done well in that leg of the draft by using their pipeline to Sweden.

If he’s played correctly, and they don’t ask too much from him, like trying to push pace, transport the puck, etc, he’ll be well worth a 3rd rd pick.

He’s one on those Dman in the NHL like Ben Chiarot. They’re pretty good if they’re playing in the correct role, but get themselves in trouble if they’re asked to, or try doing too much.

I mean the value seems fair. But do either of these teams know what lane they are in? Are the Nucks gunning for the playsoffs? Are the Rangers selling? Who knows at this point.

Too many teams get stuck in this idea that they can only be buyers or sellers. Teams on the bubble should be trading away their UFAs and also be on the lookout for ways to improve their teams.

Also, take a look at who Drury has brought in. Vaakanainen, RFA. Borgen, signed to 4 year deal. Miller, signed for 5 more years. Parssinen, RFA. Soucy, signed for 1 more year.

His trades haven’t just been about this season. They’ve been about where the team goes moving forward into next year.

Was great for us last year - especially in the playoffs. For whatever reason his play has tanked this year, consistently our worst dmen on any given night. Was easily passed by rookie dman Pettersson on the depth chart and just couldn't pay our 4th best LD his 3m+ in salary.

Hope he does well in New York, seems like a good guy.

Rangers were always trading away their UFAs

There was also a pretty clear message from the Rangers beat reporters that Drury wanted to acquire players with term beyond this year. Been a big re-hauling of the roster that will continue into the summer. Can't do it all in a month, so he has been gradually doing it throughout the year. Trying to thread the needle basically. Risky business, but you can see the vision. Could very easily fumble. We'll see

Always loved for this...

Feel bad for Jones. Looks like he is out of lineup again. You know, Miller and Borgen will be a pair vaak and Schneider will be a pair and dehaan and Soucy will be a pair.
My concern too. Jones deserves to play. If the rangers aren’t going to play him they had better trade him. He got plenty of action the past couple-few games so hopefully that was a successful showcase.

Rangers pick up a good player here. Soucy has struggled, a lot at times, this season but I think he will bounce back and be a solid get for the Rangers.

Seems a good dude as well. Pretty happy with the return but with the going prices it's hard not to wish for even more.

Basically a late 2nd for a guy playing less than Derek Forbort and making $3.25M next season. Good work Allvin.
lol....I am getting too old...when people say "a late 2nd or a late 1st"...my mind always thinks back to when there were 21 NHL teams...late 2nd? this is a 4th round pick now lol...carry on

Cheers

I hope all the best for Soucy, he looked like a steal of a contract last year but has struggled at times this year. I believe he will be a serviceable 4/5 for the Rangers and is a player that can be used in a myriad of situations.

Soucy has been a very solid 4-5 type for several years before falling off a cliff this year (especially early in the year - October was brutal). I’ve wondered how much of this is due to having newborn twins at home - he just didn’t look prepared or in shape to start the season and looked like his skating had aged 10 years.

In the end, Elias Pettersson II basically took his job and made him superfluous to requirements.

I like him and wish him well and expect he’ll be a solid player for NY.
Cool. We'll add that to Shesterkin and Zibanejad who forgot they had a hockey job after having a baby.
