To New York: Shattenkirk

To St louis: Hayes, McIlrath, Gropp.

Is that fair value, or do the rangers need to add more?

NYR get a PMD to replace Yandle.

Shattenkirk addresses a need. But that's too many youngsters to part with with the seriously shallow system we have right now.

If that's the package, I'd pass on shattenkirk now. Take my chances next summer.

Completely agree with everything here except the McDonagh part. Don't need to downgrade at D to plug one hole and also making a huge void at #1 LHD

There is no deal to be made unless they like Nash. Otherwise, deal him somewhere else. NYR is at a stage where they should not be making another Yandle or Eric Staal type move. If Shattenkirk makes it to UFA, NYR can make a run at him then, or if the price is Nash, then it makes sense, if not, no thanks. Frankly the Shattenkirk threads combined with the Fowler threads (don't need LHD) are the worst.

Concur.
I am seeing McD deal, but not for KS, for whom we can hope to simply wait.
w/his sweet contract #s, he is worth a little more than RD Trouba as RFA, enough to get us a 2nd for a 4th. I would instead add that dif as intangible surrendered, plus NYR 2017 1st, + a future 2nd and move Marc Staal reduced to 3.75 and his NMC for Wheeler [a modified NTC], Burmistrov and Postma in addition to Trouba. We get a bit of cap short term, but move an NMC.

If we add further RDs, if Shattenkirk comes along for free, then we deal a full blown Trouba on balance of his 7yr deal for solid help possibly Draisatil + depending on the market.

but certainly without exception no McD for Shatty.

PS on above ^ I can't imagine another landing spot for Marc Staal, mindful he has NMC and would have to approve. Jets are on the rise and are a good fit for LD.

Don't see another team that takes him at half at a location he's likely to consider

All this "wait for UFA" Shattenkirk or take Rick Nash talk is getting old. Especially since Blues fans are not starting these threads.

Looks like OP is a TOR fan, and the last Shattenkirk thread was also an Eklund rumor I believe

Trust me, all these Shattenkirk to NYR threads are getting old as well considering we won't be paying the young guys STL fans want as we've said in every thread. Getting pretty old

I can understand any fan saying I hope my team doesn't trade X for X. It's somewhat amusing in most trade threads fans instead say We aren't trading X for X. The truth is nobody knows what the Rangers would be willing to give up unless you're directly involved with the talks.

It might help too if we can get one all encompassing Shattenkirk trade thread until he's dealt or he reports to the Blues.

Oof no thanks from the Rangers. I don't think they should trade for Shattenkirk. Just wait and see if he wants to sign with them next summer.

There is no reason for the Rangers to give up those assets. They will be prudent for a change and wait for him to become a UFA. I could see them offering Nash or Zuccarello for S-Kirk in the near future but not younger core players. Gorton is not going to do that for a player who will be a UFA next season.

I agree with you 100%. Lots of Montreal fans said, "no way our GM trades Subban".

On Shattenkirk...

Hearing this is heating up big time and really is down to three teams. Montreal, Boston and NY Rangers...
More from Eklund

Take it for what it's worth but I hope the Blues do it sooner than later!

Galchenyuk, Alex - Montreal

Spooner, Ryan - Boston
Heinen, Danton

Kreider, Chris / Or Miller JT - Rangers
Tambellini, Adam

I seriously hope Gorton isn't giving up Kreider or Miller for a rental.

Shattenkirk is not a rental if he's traded for with a verbal agreement on a broad structure of re-signing.

This is the first I've heard of Montreal, which could just be Eklund getting clicks, but not really sure of Shattenkirk's interest in re-signing there.

Galchenyuk? God....Montreal would be so stupid.

Edit: misread post

Montreal from what I remember has been in the running from the beginning, no one payed attention because of Subban.

With their other guys getting older, it makes sense for them to go after Shattenkirk now. Weber will be 31 and Markov is going to retire soon.

I can see the fit now that Subban is gone, just don't see the desirable assets. Well outside of Galchenyuk, which I don't see happening without a big plus from Stl

Rangers want to trade for Shattenkirk got to think Derek Stepan would be asked for by St.Louis.

STL would need to add a bit unless NYR can agree an extension, don't think it's too far fetched but I would have said this was more likely before the Brassard trade.

this was the consensus ask for blues
IMO this could work depending on what alternative bid would return which I think is more setting aside factor of whether or not shatty could be free later
but it is reasonable ask as to value

I'd be fine with Stepan for a signed Shatty, or a signed Shatty for Galchenyuk, and I definitely favor the Galchenyuk deal.

ny cannot do a signed deal, cause must wait til day after the expansion draft to sign ufa to avoid force of protect slot on expansion draft

given that deal would have to be
stepan
for
shatty as expiring rental w/2 conditional 1sts if he does not sign w Rangers

As a Blues fan I'd go for it, but I Can't imagine Stepan is moved now that Brassard is gone.
that is conventional 'wisdom'
but it would be shrewd + best strategy long run to max profit in every deal, then adjust to balance/need later

I can't see the Blues giving up 2 1st on something that they can't control. For instance, lets say that Shatty stinks up the joint in NY this year or his salary demands are too high. NYR can just let him walk and take the two 1sts and the Blues have zero control over that situation.

Yeah, zero chance the Blues would add a conditional 1st (let alone 2) in the case that Shatty didn't sign.

If there is a condition like that, it would be additional picks from the Rangers TO the Blues that wouldn't transfer. Or they could be picks that dropped to lower rounds.

Shattenkirk
for
[Player] + 1st Round Pick if Shattenkirk signs / [Player] + 4th if Shattenkirk walks

The Blues and Sabres did that in the Ryan Miller trade. Had the Blues re-signed him, they would have sent another pick to Buffalo.
