excellent

ANA i don't know a better return on a winger you can ask for then ZUC, 60pts plays both wings slides up n down the first 2 lines. He is no slouch defensively either all for under 5 million bucks for 3 years. I saw a lot of you wanted tatar for fowler but Zuc is definitely the superior player and that's not a sleight at tartar. I like him as a player but Zuc getting under rated hard year. As i've said the reason NYR makes the trade now as opposed to waiting until ufa is it gives them the inside track on bargaining power with shatty for the future. My idea is that they would only make this trade with a handshake deal in place to re-up after the expansion draft to avoid protection. also having a bonafide PM on the back end would draisticly help the PP and pretty much every players offensive stats. I also mention this year Zuc and Shatty's salaries are pretty much a wash so, you hope by having him he helps nash rebound strong so he could be traded for a better haul at the deadline. and when he gets a raise to 6 6.5 per year nash's cap hit will cover that plus the raise for Zbinijad. it also lets you roll McD Shatty
Staal Klein
skjei Girardi
holden/mcilrath

or shatty could pair with staal and it gives NYR a legit top 4 with flex-abilty. I fully expect a rebound year from staal as he is well rested this summer from his surgery last year. during the year he was a step slow. towards te end of the year when paired with klein he really started playing well again. the rest from the first shortened season the rangers had in a long time will do him good. It will do the whole team good lundqvist included. This isn't they best NYR team we have seen in the last 5 or so years but i have to admit it is the one i'm most excited about. all this young and up n coming talent that should grow with one another over the next few years. I just think that move shores up the defense and the team as much as it hurts losing zuc. gota give to get.

Pretty nice job Jay with the OP deal.

I wouldn't mind Fowler being the key return in a Shattenkirk deal

If names like Fabbri and Parayko are on the table, there could be a discussion to be had.

However, I'd rather not move him.

Right because living in a country he's not from. The travel is just too hard on him :help:

He is from Norway but it doesn't mean anything. It is not like he is playing for a team in Norway and has to travel from Norway to North America a lot during the season.

Teams and players like to have easier travel schedules for a reason.

going back and fourth with a few fan bases over the last 2 weeks or so i think i have finally figured out a trade that works that these 3 teams trade from a position of strength and all get better

to NYR shattenkirk.
to STL fowler
to ANA Zuccarello

from NYR perspective their have a glut of young forwards. They need a puck moving defense man on the right side. by all accounts shattenkirk wants to be there and resign there. they are both basically the same age. I know many NYR fans will be on a ledge after trading Zucc. trust me I know, i love the guy but this makes the team better. McD and shatty would be a very good first pairing. plus both of their cap hits are similar this year so it allows a wash for salaries and the rangers get to keep nash until his stock goes higher and when they trade him at the deadline, the money is there for raises for Zbanijad and Shattenkirk. They they just resign him after the expansion draft.

From ANA perspective they trade from a position of strength by dealing fowler, it allows theodore who is ready to step right in. Zucc who will be a fan favorite there from day one makes them very dangerous going forward. allows them to roll a filthy top 6 Zucc Getz Perry Rakell kesler Silf. He is on a great contract for a budget team and allows ANA to give many different looks on O.

from STL perspective shattenkirk is a FA after this season. He is a luxury for them at this point having Pietro and Parayko on the right with schmaltz waiting in the wings. Fowler gives them a very good reliable top 3 D-man to pair with either Pietro or Parayko. He is also a RFA after this team so it gives STL more control then shatty who already stated he wants to play near home.

Conclusion Every team gives up a player they highly value in order to improve other short comings of their team. I believe each of the three teams is better off after this trade. maybe someone sends NYR a third or something because shatty's contract will be more expensive, but overall not a lot of tweaking.

OP deserves high praise for the effort. :handclap::handclap::handclap:
If we are being honest, some legit value is being shuffled to each club.

That said however,....

Trading Zuccarello when you can sign Shattenkirk next summer for nothing makes zero sense. Zuccarello makes more then Fowler so for obvious reasons. I doubt that Anaheim does it. But Anaheim and St Louis do make out like bandits the Rangers can wait and sign Shatty next summer for nothing. No need to make this deal from a Rangers perspective.
This is the bottom line for NY.
Also, I don't put it past the league to prejudice the player and say something like "if you're going to extend with the club you were on then .... ______ " (fill in the restriction, particularly as it may relate to expansion draft).
Accordingly, while I have an open mind, I am more inclined to wait until July 2 and sign him then without any possible imposition from the league 'cause I traded for him this upcoming prior season.

I love Shatt and want to bring him back home but I don't think trading Zucc for him is a smart thing to do. I think Miller is a better fit going to Anaheim and even though he's younger replacing him would be a lot easier than Zucc
No.
Zuc is not chopped liver, but since Miller is a C in addition to someone who plays either W, he is more valuable long term. That is in a vacuum. Specifically, I continue to maintain Stepan will be traded, possibly + for Pesce +. With Stepan gone, Miller is critical to the pivot scenario.
