Confirmed with Link: NYR make changes to Skills, Performance and Development staff

It makes you wonder why they "demoted" Ciaccio. Sounds like Hmura has mainly dealt with younger players at the Chicago Mission and the USNTDP. You would think it would be the opposite: that Ciaccio would coach 'em all and Hmura would develop the youngsters.

The Prospects aren't going to get daily or even regular coaching/sessions via Ciaccio - They're going to be doing work with who ever they're playing for.

Unless this is a full time position in Hartford, this sounds like a nice off ramp for Ciaccio where he can still collect a paycheck for the time being while basically being told to find a new job elsewhere.

If he did, then Ciaccio would be out of a job

At the end of the day, Ciaccio, Hmura, Glass, Ortmeyer, whomever


What helps me sleep at night is knowing our players, especially our younger guys, will be under the tutelage of a HOF defenseman, a 2x Selke trophy winner and a guy who has been professionally developing youngsters effectively for years.

It doesn’t make you wonder at all

The teams ability to develop skill stinks and he’s directly tied to it. There’s also anecdotal evidence that this guy was not good at his job from people that are around the team/players

So if anything this was over do, they need to just fire him altogether but I’ll take a demotion and eventual firing for now

Wasn’t Ciaccio basically given a lifetime job by Sather? I can’t remember who said that or where but I could’ve sworn I saw that once.
 
Says in that post article that Ciaccio wanted a role change

tbh I dont' really care as it feels like some kind of fresh look was needed regardless of whether or not Ciaccio was good at his job

I get the feeling that one of the reasons Gallant may be gone could be a resistance to a set of youngish assistants and specialists.

I've been calling for a cleaning-of-house of the skills staff for the better part of the last 20 years, so I'll fight anyone on that.

I never called for individual names since I just want the whole house cleaned in one fell swoop and to start over.

This still isn't that, so whatever. It's a start, but consider me unimpressed until more action is taken.

The flip side of the coin:

All of the recent coaching staff moves point to supporting the youngsters, namely Kakko and Lafreniere.

All that is great, however the most important component is playing time and putting them in a place to succeed.

We'll see if this commitment extends to what actually happens on the ice during the season

Like we suck at development right? and Ciaccio was considered to be a joke here, based off like one short youtube video with Howden, but still considered to be a joke. And now he is developing the skills of the prospects.

Isn't that like one of the most important jobs in the org? The thing we need the most?

As mentioned earlier, unless he's going to be in Hartford, hes going to spend almost NO time with the prospects.

They have their own teams who have their own coaches. Their work will be done there.

Seems more like a do-nothing job. Like Gabe Perreault will be working and training with BC. Ciaccio can't just show up at BC's practices to coach him or Fortescue. McConnell-Barker's coaches are the Soo Greyhounds coaches. They don't have random guys affiliated with NHL organizations come into practices.

Hartford would be about the only place he'd be able to have consistent interaction with the kids, outside of something like our development camp or any other summer program. In season, all the non-AHL prospects get their coaching from their own programs. It would also be kind of weird to have a prospect-focused coach in Hartford because most of the guys down there aren't even prospects, and it seems really unlikely they'd separate them out during practices.
