Okay with this. Like everyone else mentioned, a bit high on price, but nothing to hack at. Term was key here and Gorton will get that.

Time to prove your worth Jimmy....

I don't like seeing the "slightly overpaid" keep reoccurring. Can we get a couple fair or bargains out of our RFA's?

I mean we just did get a good bargain on Vesey.

Unfortunately, for my eye balls when reading this forum, the potential arbiter did not think Twitter stats were permissive in this case.

Also, for you guys who still use your toes to count when you need to go past 10 without a calculator , remember salaries in the cap era are based around cap percentage.

If you don’t want to look at it that way, then you should be outraged because although the contract is only 2 years, he’s making more than double what Sather gave Gretzky in the 80s.

I’ve wanted to build some sort of database to show contracts cap% when signed for a few months now, but I’ve been too lazy to actually sit down and do it
I know Capfriendly lists the cap % for each player on their page. They probably have some way to view it on a larger scale as well.

There's an old saying where I'm from.

Anyway, enough about that.

I'm very okay with spending a few hundred thousand extra cap space on a young player capable of evolving and improving his moveset rather than spend it on an UFA asking for too much.

Remember when everyone got hives over giving McDonagh 7.5 and me and some other guy (not naming names) said Miller and Vesey would get that? /KermitSippingCyanide.gif

At least Miller didn't get it here.

I don't hate it, the bridge deal is good and aav is slightly high but the cap did go up, hopefully he improves a bit under Quinn and we can sell high on him.

I feel like 33 goals over 2 seasons buys him a bit more than 2 months into next season.

You're absolutely right, and I'm clearly a bit over the top for emphasis.

However, we could both supply a laundry list of young players that had a couple 15 goal/30 point seasons - and that's as good as it got. There's no promise of a 10-year NHL career. For every one that we see sustain that basis and grow, we see at least three or four that drop off. I'm in the minority camp that believes he won't be an NHL regular.

Through March, wasn't he stuck at 9 goals for some time? I recall the April empty-net hat-trick. Bottom line, objectively - it was a real struggle for the majority of the time.

Note: Noesen just resigned in Jersey, 1 year 1.75M (which is exactly what I think Vesey deserves). I wouldn't have give him the second year. I believe his play will phase him out. We'll see.

Vesey's not bad but to me he's just a guy. If this were baseball piching, he'd be an "innings eater". No problem with this contract

A little more than I thought too but meh won’t hurt in the cap . He’s the type of guy you needed to bridge
