Putting up 50 in WPG is a lot easier than in NYR, agree. If he can continue scoring 50+ points a season he'll probably be worth it but I can't help but fear the worst and it turns out he's more of a 30 point guy.

Maybe care less?Maybe group your stuff together? There was no need for 5 post in a row. Especially where none of your responses contributed to anything.
If that's all we get from him, for most of his contract, I'll be quite happy. If he ends up being a #2/#3 for the duration of his contract, the 8 million is well worth it going forward. Trouba had a unique situation - 1 year away from UFA status.
People look at RFA VS UFA money. 1) That's changing with the current RFA contracts. 2) There was only 1 year of RFA status left. If we let this play out through arbitration, we keep Trouba paid less for this year and then have to negotiate through-out the year or trade him at the deadline. He would most likely want to listen to UFA offers if he starts the season as an expiring contract.
His defensive metrics are pretty horrible. He is a much better defender than both...hands down better
That's precisely what he is
AhoThis board thinks every player making over $6.5M/year is overpaid.
CapFriendly also has the signing dates of all those contracts, but I guess that sort of spoils the joke.
Trouba is an overrated name. Morrisey is the better player and Jets fans been saying this for years.I would take Trouba on my team easily over Morrissey.
Let's make a poll on this and see what people believe in general.
No, not even close. Ivan is better at everything but PP. Ivan is far superior defensively.Trouba is l better that Provorov in all phases of the game. Provorov is younger and may reach Trouba's level some day, but he Trouba is a much better player right now
Not really. It doesn’t matter what team you are on to get 50 you need a lot of PP production. The Jets second PP doesn’t score much and doesn’t play much and Buff is normally the only D-man on the #1 unit. Trouba played 35-40 games on the Jets top PP while Buff was injured and still managed to hit 50 points. He’d have been well into the mid 60’s if he’d been on the top PP all year.Putting up 50 in WPG is a lot easier than in NYR, agree.
This is just false, his defensive metrics are bad, not average, bad.He plays against the other teams best players, he's near the top on the NHL in 5v5 scoring rates over the past 3 years and is one of the better defenders in the NHL and has good PP numbers in spite of relatively limited opportunity with the Jets top unit. There are maybe 3-5 other D-men in the NHL you can say these things about.
His defensive metrics are pretty horrible.
Look at the Jets offensive lineup in comparison, the talent levels aren't close. Do you really expect Trouba to put up 50 in NY?Not really. The point was "he's one of the better defenders in the NHL"Doesn't detract from the point
He was the 3rd best defenseman on his stacked offensive team.Is that why only 34 defenders got more TOI/G than he did and of those 34, only 7 outscored him?
That must be one hell of a second pairing defender.
He doesn’t score as much as Trouba, he doesn’t face the other teams top lines like Trouba and he isn’t as good defensively as Trouba. No, not even close. Ivan is better at everything but PP.
No. Before he was hired by the Avs, @DTMaH’s WAR model, (easily the best metric to date for evaluating defensive play) regularly ranked Trouba as a top 10 defensive D-man in the NHL. Provorov is not in this territory.Ivan is far superior defensively.
Trouba has been the Jets best D-man for a while. Morrissey is made a case for himself but doesn't produce at the same rates. Buff has been on the Jets second pair for a couple years now.He was the 3rd best defenseman on his stacked offensive team.
Honestly, because it is the Rangers.I've asked this before but based on your post how?
Myers 6M, Karlsson 11.5M.
How is Trouba, a top pair RD at 8M a lot then?
Why do people keep acting like you can get these guys for cheap outside of their ELC.
He was the 3rd best defenseman on his stacked offensive team.

Maybe in certain markets the fact it was the Rangers singeing him was an issue but there are likely bigger reasonsHonestly, because it is the Rangers.
If a different team signed Trouba (aside from maybe the Leafs and Habs) to that contract, the responses would be overwhelmingly positive. Especially if it was a small market team. All we would be reading is how great it is for said team to get a legitimate top pairing defenseman locked up during his prime on a fair contract.
But because it is the Rangers and they are an easy target, Trouba is now vastly overpaid and went from being a top pairing guy to a solid #3.
Trouba is a much better player than Dumba.
Trouba plays against the other team’s top players Dumba doesn’t
Trouba is excellent defensively Dumba is erratic defensively
Trouba was more productive 5v5
Trouba is better on the PK
Dumba may be a little better on a the PP but that’s mostly driven by an elevated and unsustainable sh% last year.
