I’d take Carpenter for a lower pick.

Lankinen will probably command a higher AAV as an impending UFA than what Georgiev is getting right now, so I don’t know how that helps the Rangers when they’d be looking to save cap on a backup goalie.

Because the idea is that neither will play for us next season. The backup will be Huska, a veteran for the minimum, or an UDFA from Europe.

We could trade Georgiyev for a late round pick, but what’s the chances that the late round pick ever had any value towards an NHL team. This trade has value towards our NHL team this season.

He's UFA in the off-season, which has me curious. Is there still an NHL goalie in there? Or was it just a hot stretch? Haven't watched too many Hawks games this season.

He wasn’t even an NHL prospect a year ago. He got games because the Hawks had no goalies. After his great start, he reverted back to being a flash in the pan. I think he’s more Hammond than a real NHL goalie in the long-term.

Huska isn’t NHL caliber, isn’t even close either.

He’s not a viable option and there isn’t an argument for him.

He was a nhl prospect. He was a Ahl all star also.

He was an AHL All-Star due to his heroics for Finland in a short tournament. The All-Star game often isn’t on merit, and they select the biggest names. He wasn’t able to put up good numbers in either the AHL or ECHL. At that point, he was a 23/24 year old that was good in Liiga, but average/mediocre in the AHL. That’s not really a prospect. Maybe a guy you don’t completely count out, but unless you are counting every guy with a small chance, not a real prospect.

Sorry, but that’s ridiculous. He’s a young goalie with good numbers in the AHL. Of course a player like that could be close to being an NHL goalie.

He’s a long shot at best of being an NHL goalie. He hasn’t put up good numbers in the AHL until this year, his age 24 season.

What’s truly ridiculous is penciling him in as a backup to Igor and expecting similar play to what Georgiev is giving them now, at the NHL LEVEL.

You’re overrating him quite a bit.

Of the 65 goalies in the league to have played 300 minutes, which pretty much amounts to the goalies with NHL spots, Georgiyev is 48 in SV% and 46 in GSAA. He’s between an average and mediocre back up. I don’t think it’s too unlikely that Huska or almost anyone else can replicate that. I don’t see how it’s overrating a 24 year old goalie with good stats in the AHL to say he could be an average or mediocre back up a year from now. Take away the names and you’d agree with that statement.

So let me get this straight.

You cherry pick what he did earlier on in the season when he wasn’t getting reps and value that over what Huska is doing in the AHL, but Huska letting in 3 shit goals against Colorado doesn’t matter somehow.

Got it.

When you want to put biases aside and have a reasonable discussion, let’s talk.

What? I am using the full season for Georgiyev. Are you trying to argue he’s been good? I may be misunderstanding what you are saying about him.

As for Huska, you are right that his first start didn’t go well. He was also thrown to the wolves to go against the best offense in the league behind one of the worst games all season from the defense. All games matter, but putting too much weight into one game is never a good idea.

No, what you’re doing is cherry picking his overall season, factoring in numbers from a time in which he wasn’t getting much starts, when he’s clearly been a different goalie since Igor has went down. He’s also proven in the past to be capable when he gets starts, as he did in 2018, 2019 and 2020.

If you think he hasn’t been good since Igor’s injury, I don’t know what to tell you. We’re clearly not watching the same team and player then.

To boot, you’re claiming that Huska can step in and do what Georgiev is doing now. That’s just madness. I’m not putting a ton of stock in that one game, but I’m also not going to put stock in one good year from Huska.

Maybe he turns out to be an ok backup in the NHL one day, but to claim that he could easily step in and do what Georgiev is doing AT THIS MOMENT right now or even next season is preposterous at best.
