Lankinen is better than Georgiev, why is Chicago adding?
I don't know about better, but he's definitely cheaper. Even as a UFA, Chicago can probably re-sign him for cheap.
Georgiev has a 2.65 mil QO that I would think many teams would be reluctant to give him. He has been great since Shesty went down, but struggled before that, going back to last year. He has a better track record than Lankinen, while being a year younger. If a team thinks they can sign Georgiev for less than his QO, then maybe there's interest in acquiring his rights. However, teams know the Rangers can't afford to give him that QO next year. If they don't trade him, then they'll have to let him walk. He isn't going to re-sign with the Rangers to be the backup. He wants a legitimate shot at being a starter, and he won't get that with the Rangers.
I could see a team like Arizona being interested in Georgiev. They are way under the cap floor next year, so they probably won't quibble about paying him. And other than maybe Vejmelka, they have no goalies who look like they have a chance to be an NHL starter. They could acquire Georgiev for relatively cheap and see if he can be the guy.
