Did they realize it would cost them all more to hold the arbitration hearing than the $20k or whatever difference in AHL salaries?

Really weird it took this long to agree to the minimum contract. Are the Rangers expected to use their buyout on someone?

My initial thought when I saw his name on the list was that the team asked him to file for arbitration and they'd already agreed to this contract. Just having a player file for arbitration provided some extra flexibility to execute a buyout if absolutely necessary.

What if someone had offer-sheeted Lafrenière for $4-5m? The team would match, but they'd need to clear cap. Unlikely scenario, but not a bad idea to guard against it anyway.
