If they trade Smith he may find himself without much supporting company on the third line, but that’s a problem for next season when we (in theory) actually have a chance to try to win something

I know this team doesn’t like to do it, but I would be okay with something like:

Cuylle - JT - Zib
Bread - Tro - Laf
Otthman - Parsinnen - Berard
Brodz - Carrick - Rempe

Kreider slots in if he’s healthy enough to play but if we’re sellers maybe just let him sit and recover. We had a kid line before when Laf, Chytil and Kakko were babies. I would not be opposed to letting that line play a bit. Could always shift Otthman up, Laf or Cuylle down, Brodz or Carrick to line 3, Parsinnen or Berard down to 4 situationally. But as a general guideline I wouldn’t hate that for what’s left of this year.

Lindgren getting all the love in this thread (he was a warrior here), but let’s appreciate Vesey for a second.

We’ve watched dozens of players intentionally sign retirement contracts here just to play the worst hockey of their career. Vesey on the other hand resurrected his career over the past few years as a Ranger. Another really good soldier that was a valuable contributor at times.

The drop off needs to be studied.

If he were a different player, I would agree. In this case, I don’t think it’s that deep of a study. Guy is held together by Elmer’s glue (not even gorilla), paper clips, a few staples and some plain old scotch tape. We talk about giving 110% figuratively. He did it literally. He’s a 0% now because he is simply broken. Dude deserves disability pay when he retires.

Ryan Lindgren was never a star, but he was my favorite Ranger of this iteration. I had no problem acknowledging his break down, and I know why everyone wanted him gone at the end, but he deserves nothing but praise in my book. We complain about guys like Laf or whomever having questionable commitment to fitness or improving and Lindgren with 1/6 the hype or talent (or earnings) gave us every ounce he had.

Realizing I’m almost positive I made the exact same post about Girardi when his time here ended too. Guess I’ve got a type. Or just like seeing dudes bleed for their team.

Outstanding. The gutting of the defense was desperately needed.

I always hated Vesey and I will always blame him for losing the last Devils series.

Just get rid of Laviolette, KAM, Kreider, and Zibanejad and we can get this thing rolling again. It’ll be a quick turnaround.

Excellent trade, nice return for two guys that weren't going to be re-signed. Lindgren was a warrior for us when he got here, but it was time to move on as his play has declined hard this year. Vesey was a fringe player on the roster anyway, appreciate what he's done but no sense in keeping him. Wish both players the best in Colorado!

Solid, solid return, especially nice work on the picks. I'm excited to see what Parsinnen can bring, and de Haan fills a major veteran hole on defense.

Great news to start the weekend!

Lindgren played last night like he learned he was finally gtfo of here.

Ironically the way he played last night might've convinced Colorado. He did say that he didn't want to leave NY.

Meanwhile, Kreider thinking he can't be traded if people think he has trouble picking up lint off the floor.

Aside from being traded, Jones should play every game going forward now.

If Drury even suspects he may have a new defensive coach next season then I think they should keep Jones. I would like to see if he can play under a different D coach. He may still not be good enough but I think it is worth the risk to keep him based on his skating.

Is there actually a path for Parsinnen as a 3C?
Assuming

A) He earns it
B) NYR don't sign anyone else
C) NYR trade Zibanejad or keep him at RW permanently

All the beat writing suggests they rate him the way they rated Borgen. He'll have to earn it, but it's a more worthwhile use of our last 24 games than playing Brodzinski there.
