  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Nobody is trading for Severson with his contract
I remember all summer how nobody is taking that PLD contract and yet it happened. The fact is Severson is still a under 30 RHD with great analytic numbers. Not saying you not going to get much for him but the fact is he's an RHD that can play 1st line minutes in a pinch.

Not even squat last two games.

In the hunt points-wise, but the way they are playing it feels like 10 pts back. Games get tightened up this time of year, but CBJ will not shoot the puck - until out of space.
I think it was DSL who posted earlier that they don’t look tired - maybe not physically, but emotionally they look cooked to me.
Vegas and NYR, we didn’t even play terrible, we were outshooting Vegas 8-0 and then conceded a goal, this game started with a bad goal by Tarry/Severson.

No puck luck at all

You could have got that at the TDL though. We have multiple 1sts in a bad draft.
This team is going nowhere in the playoffs . They need major upgrades on Defense and in Goal . Goalies aren’t easy to trade for , I’m totally fine with our lack of moves at the TDL. Don may need these assets to unload some bad contracts Jarmo signed , or for upgrades in Goal or at D . It would have been foolish to waste assets for a rental to maybe squeak in the playoffs .

Do people realize hockey is the one sport where “8 seeds” have had great success in the playoffs? You just have to get hot at the right time, and have depth/health.

I'm not following the whole Severson discussion (if there is one) but FYI, prior to the Vegas game Severson wasn't on the ice for a single goal against 5v5 dating back to February 8th. That's 8 games with 8 GF and 0 GA. He had a stupid (and soft) moment in this game but generally speaking he hasn't been an issue lately.

If Evason doesn't want him then I could imagine a trade. I agree Severson could be moved, it might just involve taking a bad contract back or something nasty like that. I'm not sure I'm looking forward to it, he's really not a bad player. And if we sign a D UFA contract this summer it could be worse than the 6 x 6 remaining on Severson's deal.

Oh not only did we get embarrassed 4-0 at home in a must win, we gave a standing ovation to the NYR broadcaster retiring (this is whatever), and had chants of “Egor” ring out in the third period. Just sad man.

Can't win if you don't score a goal. They are still a bubble team but teams are figuring out if you shut down the first line it ends it. No scoring depth is the obvious weakness in my eyes.

Personally I think he's fine though we do need a RHD 2 this summer (and even then I still don't see how Gudbranson slots in next year) but with how the rest of social media see it Severson is the single thing holding us back from the playoffs this year. Basically he's the new Elvis scapegoat.

It's not clear to me yet what we'll need over the summer, if there is a Severson trade, if Fabbro is signed, if Provorov is signed.

We played ZAR-Danforth-Olivier against Laf-Zib-Miller right? That’s why that line had the second most ice time?

Is our second line not capable to defend 5v5?

Severson is getting an unfair amount of criticism, though I'd be interested in what the quality of the opposition has been during those 8 games (NB: I didn't check your link, maybe that information was available there). Given Evason's apparent mistrust of the player, I imagine he does not get the toughest minutes.

I can see the sense in moving Severson if the Blue Jackets are in on a guy like say Noah Dobson. Though I doubt they will and even if they did make a move like that, they'd still be lacking a shutdown defenseman. I'm not convinced a Severson trade this off-season, all things considered, would be a net positive for the team.

I believe they are in it emotionally. I suppose it’s possible that there is the will but they just can’t bring it to the level they want. In thinking some more I am getting that “we just don’t have answers” vibe.

What they failed to mention was those Minnesota teams were a 1 line team where if you shut down Kaprizov you shut down their offense.
Kinda like our team currently without Monahan and Sillinger .. we have no center play aside from Fantilli , which was a strength all season

In thinking some more I am getting that “we just don’t have answers” Did not mean to suggest they aren’t bringing all they can, it’s partly they don’t have enough skill on the ice and partly I think the battle they have shown all year makes that so much more difficult a pill to swallow. They start a game strong and yet still behind after 1 period 2 games in a row. The ice then shrinks and CBJ chasing goals the rest of the night. They are staying mostly structured, not opening up, but no real confidence on offense. That’s exhausting emotionally, even on goalies. It’s not over yet, and I’m not criticizing the effort or emotional investment- but they KNOW they’ve got to find “it” fast, long before Monahan, et al, get back on the ice.

Oh he's definitely getting easy minutes. But if a guy is going 8-0 in those minutes that's huge value either way.
