I don't think they actually could. Much of the Rangers' cap is not movable.

All they'd have to do is send down Buchnevich or Skjei to make it work under the cap until they found another deal to free up some space to call them back up. Rangers would do that deal every day and twice on Sunday if it was available to them.

Hawks needed to give up Teravainen to get rid of 1 YEAR of Bickell
Det had to give a 1st round pick in order to get rid of Datsyuk's contract

Why would a team settle for a late 2nd and a B prospect when referring to these trades? If the Ducks want to get rid of Stoner, IMO Theodore or Mountour are goign the other way as NONE of your other prospects compares to a 16th OA pick or Teravainen. Ritchie hasn't shoiwn anything similar to Teravainen and Larsson isn't as a good Teravainen or a 16oa pick

Detroit didn't give up a 1st round pick. They gave up draft position by moving down in the draft.

Yeah, but Datsyuk only has 1 year contract left too.

The fact Stoner has 2 years left is VERY not good for any team that takes on his contract vs Bickell-Dtaysuk

Yeah but Stoner's at least an effective NHL'er on the bottom pairing. Datsyuk is not here anymore and Bickell isn't an effective NHL'er anymore. That tilts the value slightly. I agree the second year isn't very good in terms of value but it's a false equivalence comparing it to Datsyuk and Bickell.
