Haydn Fleury. I realize he's not as "NHL ready" so DRW fans won't like it as much.

As the OP, I would love a return like this for Gus. Clears cap space. I am in the minority in that I am willing to move both Nyquist and Tatar, as part of a package or separately, to free up top 9 time for both AA and Mantha. Have no problem with prospects and/or picks.

I don't mind it, but Carolina would have to add someone like...Roy

I'm not great at player value, but adding would be a tough sell for me. I get that Nyquist is more proven, but the Canes are very high on Fleury (from what I can tell). He's also under the teams control for quite a few years and cheap, which is important to a team like Carolina.

Nyquist is a better player, not arguing that, but 1) he gets paid $4.25, $5.25 and $5.5 over the next 3 years which is quite pricey and 2) he's a UFA in 3 years so the team doesn't have control over him nearly as long. 3) He's gone against lesser competition in Detroit vs. other forwards.

I'm not as high on Roy as others are, but I still don't think I'd want to add. Just my $0.02.

I understand your reservation.

Nyquist is in his prime, signed to a good deal, and a good two-way player. His salary will fit his game, but his cap hit is less than 5 mllion. I also believe he would be a good insulator for the young forward crop that Carolina has.

Fleury for Detroit would be a gamble. Will he be a top 4? Or will he plateau into a bottom pairing guy? Maybe he's a solid #2. The guy hasn't stepped out of juniors yet...although I like his game.

Thats my reasoning for the add. Detroit takes the most risk IMO.

Yeah, I understand your position, and if I was in your shoes, I'd probably have the same view.

Canes did trade for Dane Fox a while back, but I'm not sure he's under contract with the team right now. Even so, he's ECHL level so I don't think he's even a "small" add. ;

Nyquist?

1st in the Kentucky Derby, 3rd in the Preakness. I imagine the offers would be huge. The stud fees alone would be enormous for the potential buyer.
