That defensive effort was atrocious- good on slick Willy for capitalizing, but that forward/defense combo decision to let him just walk into the slot was.. oof.

Very skilled player who I think can score a lot better goals. This goal was just as much about the Habs playing totally soft defense as much as Nylander. With that said he is a fun player to watch.

Nice goal, but it wasn't exactly the coast to coast type goals I'd be thinking of. He didn't have to engage with any defender until he was about 6 feet over their blue line

They were on the PK....so that's basically the set up....there is normally 3 options: 1) puck carrier brings it over the line and immediately tries to make space (i.e. doesn't carry it over and try to drive the net), 2) dump in and someone chases or 3) pass over to guy standing at the blue line by the boards with stick in the zone so the other players rush up and the D back off and white ice created and now you have zone possession.

So the D was a letdown for sure, but you can understand the thought process.

I know that…I’m talking about that specific play and instance, it was simply a bad read and decision to do that there.

It’s not all Savard. Domino effect of horrible team defense. The forward up high is not steering or influencing Nylander at all. Hutson, albeit in a tough spot, gets turned around and beat to the middle.

Just a mess by MTL all around.

Toronto's PP the past five years has been about gaining the zone the dumping off to the half wall. Savard was just doing what the Habs scouting reports told him to do.

I feel like it's been put under a way too big microscope at this point but it was the wrong decision. I'm sure the guy who runs the PK/defense told them to watch out for that play on the PP, but that doesn't mean you just cheat to it and open up the middle of the ice when your other teammates aren't in great positions.
