I know it’s been talked about a lot in other threads but I wanted to make this thread to have a spot where all the Dumba/Nylander opinions can be expressed because this will likely be talked about until next season starts.

Minnesota Talking points:
  • Need’s centreman. Toronto fans, is Nylander capable of recreating his current production down the middle?

  • Dumba’s down year was the worst of his career. Didn’t have a full offseason after his pectoral surgery. Paced for 30 goals and almost 60 points in his 24yo season, hit 50 points at 23yo. wasn’t a top pair guy this year but he would be on most teams (including the leafs) and was looking like he was going to take the reigns from Suter as our 1D for the next 5+ years.
Toronto Talking points:
  • Is Dumba the type of defenseman they should be targeting to pair with Reilly
  • Can Nylander get a better RD/Does Toronto have better options in the right side
Friedman said today in his 31 thoughts that Nylander could be moved but it would require a top-4 RD to be coming back.

I think the sentiment amongst wild fans is that it’s a trade that makes sense for both side.

Dumba has really only had one not down year ...zero interest in Dumba

Who the f*** cares about Matthews in this conversation? How f***ing lost can you be? Let me give you another example of players that you may know that will hopefully help you understand how utterly awful your point actually is.

Morgan Reilly's XGF% when paired with Tyson Barrie - 54.4
Morgan Reilly's XGF% when paired with Cody Ceci - 49.6

Guess Reilly is a guy that gets carried by his partners as well. Maybe the Wild should sign Barrie to play with Brodin, would have to be the greatest Dpair in the league by your brutal logic.

The first pair was also deployed far more often in the offensive zone, in offensive situations and against easier competition. The second pair was the opposite. Used late in games when defending a lead against the opponents best players when the coaches wouldn't dream about putting Rielly-Barrie out.

So you might think that you have used logic, but you haven't.

Seeing as everyone knows that Brodin is a much better D than Dumba, and seeing as every bit of evidence - not one piece - all of it - indicates that Dumba was being carried by stronger partners, no one with any sense should assume otherwise. I am perfectly fine with you guys suckering some other team into overpaying for Dumba and then finding out that he actually sucks. Not fine with it being a team I cheer for.

Value is kinda close, but I don't think it's a good fit for either team, really. Minny needs a C and Nylander is just not that, and Toronto needs more of a top shutdown RHD and Dumba is not that.

This is nonsense. It's valid to worry about his performance after the injury midway through 2018-19, but he was trending up every year before that. He entered the league at 20 and had a fair amount of work to do rounding out his game defensively, but he put that work in. Then 50 points in 2017-18 and was on absolute fire until that fight in Calgary.

Those first few years are only "down" if you have unreasonable expectations for young defensemen.

Neither guy is exactly what the other team wants. Both would be massive upgrades to what each team currently has in place. Just a matter of other/better avenues existing.

Just the 3M difference for next year alone( before the extension kicks in) would be nice for TOR, but a Brodin/Nylander trade is a worse fit than a Dumba/Nylander trade.

Brodin is a LHD. Wild have fewer LHD options to replace him.

Nylander is still Nylander- a guy who has spent most of his time playing RW. Wild, unfortunately, have overspent on Zuccarello, who plays that position, and Kaprizov plays RW.

The premise behind such a trade makes great sense- Solid RHD help for TOR, and a top 6 C for MN- but the details are hazy.
