Confirmed Trade: [NYI/STL] Scott Perunovich for 2026 cond. 5th round pick

Meh it’s ok, I still don’t buy into this team and would rather just play Hutton/Bolduc and acquire assets nearer the trade deadline. The way this season is going they are probably gonna be an 85-87ish point team and pick outside the top 10

Kind of a nothing deal, but Isles are in a position to give him a potential "change of scenery" look and an opportunity to play on a team that probably doesn't have very high expectations at this point. Not like they're giving up a ton of "value"...it's a bargain flyer, basically just skipping the waiver line.

And for the Blues...he wasn't gonna stick there, so might as well get something, or anything they can for him. :dunno:

DeAngelo and Perunovich are “better” depth than the Isles had last week on their blueline and I get that it’s a cheap way to try and jump start a little offense and transition play from the blueline…but it certainly won’t make their blueline harder to play against. Both those guys will get brutalized by NHL forwards in their own zone.

But considering a guy like Cholowski had some decent returns in a limited role, it’s not hard to see Perunovich putting up a few points for a few months.

The Islanders play unimaginative offensive hockey but adding De Angelo and Perunovich in the space of a week would be interesting if they try to incorporate more modern o-zone game planning. Carolina play the O-zone 5 man wave as well as anyone, their hybrid d corp going downhill on the attack steadily. Perhaps the Isles recognize that they will not make the playoffs and draw poorly if they continue to play such drab hockey. One can hope.

Actually the Islanders won't make the playoffs because they have a subpar roster - And that roster is aging.

This is Lou trying to save his job by adding to a team that has no hope when he should be selling - The literal opposite of what he's doing.

Injuries took their toll on him. Not sure he has the skating ability required to make his game work at this level, not that it's bad, you just have to be an elite skater to make up for his size and defensive limitations. His shot isn't strong enough and has never been a significant part of his game in college or AHL level either. With PP time and sheltering, maybe he can make something of himself, but probably ends up as one of those guys that can't cut it past AHL/Europe.

Erik Brannstrom special

I wonder if now that Tsyplakov is in and Perunovich was acquired, the end of Pierre Engvall is near (again).

If you mean the summer of 2030 then yes the end is near . Certainly no team will take that contract . Don’t feel bad , 5 years after Engvall is off our books the Mets will make their last payment to Bobby Bonilla …WOOF WTG MADOFF…. LGI

There's a perfect team for the Pierre Engvall contract, HV71 Jonkoping.

An assist in his isle debut for their 5th straight win as they beat the Avalanche

Maybe the Islanders pretty defensive heavy forward group and Sorokin can make up for his inability to defend consistently at the NHL level.

Him getting 30 assists a season is pretty reasonable. It’s moreso if it’s enough to cover up for his lack of wanting to shoot the puck and need for heavy sheltering.

Always liked the player, but those lost years seemed to have really limited his ability to progress. Rooting for him

Is that the same guy that was once pretty highly touted by St-Louis fans?

What happened? Offense looks to have dried up in the NHL.

I would say cautiously optimistic rather than highly touted. Guy couldn't stay healthy long enough to make a strong impression one way or another.

I'm interested to hear from Islanders fans if it seems like Perunovich is limited by his inability to see the play beyond one pass. He'll make a really nice play now and then, but my read is that he very often makes unforced passes to players who have zero or bad options.

When he's moving his feet, he can be a real asset. Better defensively, in transition, and in the offensive zone. But he so often just stands there, receives a pass, has plenty of time and space to do something, and only looks to pass it, regardless of what that pass will achieve.

You can tell he’s a smart player and knows what to do with the puck. I don’t ever remember him being a really good skater but when he was in college it felt like he was a good skater. Blues fans were spot on that for his size he’s not the best skater. Shoulder injuries are tough

It was just one but he didn’t stand out in a negative way and for a defenseman that’s a good thing. Right. Now with the injuries he’s our 6th defensman.
Im not sure Lou makes a trade if Dobson and/or Pulock are close to returning so he may get an extended look here for the rest of the season.

I get the vibe from his comments that Roy cares about D zone breakouts even more than the typical NHL coach. So if this guy can make a good first pass, he might be a good fit.
