Picking a fight
To CAR:
Jaroslav Halak ($4.5M - 17/18)
Matt Greene ($2.5M - 16/17)
From CAR:
Eddie Lack w/ 50% retention ($1.375M - 17/18)

To NYI:
2017 2nd LA
From NYI:
Jaroslav Halak ($4.5M - 17/18)

To LA:
Eddie Lack w/ 50% retention (1.375M - 17/18)
From LA:
Matt Greene ($2.5M - 16/17)
2017 2nd LA

Why Carolina does this: They upgrade there goaltending at the cost of short-term cap space. For a team with loads of space and goaltending holding them back, this should be a no-brainer.

Why New York does this: They end the 3-headed monster goaltending experiment finally and open up that roster spot. Also acquire a 2nd rounder (presumably for Snow to use to move up as always) and get rid of Halak's cap hit for next season, opening up money for Greiss, Clutterbuck, CDH, and potentially a FA or Seidenberg back.

Why Los Angeles does this: They need a goalie after all the injuries (and even before it, since I don't believe Zatkoff is NHL caliber) and Lack at 1.375 is a steal. Plus they get rid of Greene's cap for this season, potentially opening up space for a TDL acquisiton. The only cost is a 2nd.

I like this trade because Carolina is trading Lack for Halak

Though is Lack worth a 2nd rounder (+ moving a dead contract)? He was only moved for a 3rd at the 2015 draft and has not shown any signs of improving since then.

With retention, plus dumping greene, plus LA's situation.

I think so, but maybe LA or CAR fans can weigh in?

Tempting, but i dont think that we are going to start moving picks, we need to stock up. Any interest in king instead?

I don't see Carolina taking on Greene and retaining on Lack. Although they could definitely use Halak and La would be a good spot for Lack. It puts Lack back out west and hopefully he regains his form, I think the problem is the canes goalie coach trying to change his style

As a king fan id do this Getting rid of greene would open up space next year for us to resign Pearson and Toffoli Also gives us a roster spot to let Gravel play for the rest of this year. The 2nd is a lot to pay but worth it in the long run to rid us of greene

Do it from an Isles perspective, but I'd dial back some of the retention on Lack. LA can afford to take on more cap hit if they're moving Greene in the deal.

not really lets not forget that both contracts are 2 years left Greene place on the roster needs to be filled and even if your add a elc player like gravel that 667 500 k to replace him plus the 1.375 for lack is over 2 million so we re not saving that much If lack wasn't at 50% kings wouldn't do a 2nd it would be a 3rd

Don't think any canes fans will like this. We have no use for Greene, take on too much salary regardless of cap space and retain on Lack. Big no thanks from this fan.

So dump Greene in the AHL, it doesn't matter. The point is you upgrade goaltending at the cost of nothing more than some unneeded cap space. I don't see how this is a no from Canes fans to be honest. Seems like a no-brainer.

With the injuries that keep piling up for the Kings, I don't know why they would bother trading for a goalie right now. Rather just wait. Tomorrow Kings jump way up on the waiver claim list!

The cap space doesn't matter as I already said. Carolina isn't the kind of team that's going to pay Greene that much to play in the ahl. It's the real money that matters and Greene is of no use whatsoever to the team.

They take on a lot of salary in this proposal AND retain on the only guy they're moving.
