Seems like a decent gamble for the Isles. They've already had some kind of similar players that haven't found their stride there, but as a cheap depth player? Might as well. He's got all the tools to be a scorer, but at this point...doesn't seem likely he's ever going to consistently put them together.

big and fast, can't finish. frustrating player. always thought he should have been coached up to pk while with NYR.

Some nights youll watch him and your jaw will drop with how easily he gets to the net. Then youll be frustrated at how he cant finish for the life of him. This is a good signing though at that number

he has 1st round talent
and house league hockey sense

honestly he has a fantastic skillset if he could just play to it, but he hasn't figured that out yet which may be another brain issue. would make an incredible play every 4-5 games blowing by an entire team for a breakaway and every 25 games or so one of those went in

9 goals in 57 games last year is pretty good production for a 4th liner, certainly compared to what the Isles 4th liners put up last year:

Martin, Cizikas and Clutterbuck combined for 19 goals in 201 games played

The problem is he's playing fourth line because of his play, not production. If his play was better, he'd be playing higher up in the lineup. He brings a lot of speed, can be physical at times, but just reminds me of grabner with less hands and little IQ.

The real question is, does he skate better than Grabner did? That running on ice used to make me cringe.

What's that got to do with the point I'm making? And Grabner scored 175 goals in 640 NHL games, which is 22 goals per season pro-rated. What the heck is wrong with that? A 4th-liner who scores 15 goals a season would be pretty valuable to this team.

I liked him in his short time with the Sens. Definitely think this is a good pickup for the Isles. As others have said, if he could put it together consistently he'd be really good. Even if he can't though he's solid enough to be a player in the league.

Not what I said at all. And I didn't compare his production to grabner....

Seems like a really nice kid and I was hoping he could put it together on the Rangers - unfortunately that never happened. It's a shame because I honestly think he's way too nice of a guy given his god given gifts of speed and size. If he was more of a prick, he'd be a terrifying mix of Carl Hagelin and Tom Wilson.

I love to see guys steal a spot - here's hoping it happens.
I’m hoping he does that as well (either Clutterbuck, Johnston or Martin; preferably all 3). His speed seems to be his best asset from how everyone keeps talking. He’d be great alongside a guy like Cizikas who’s just a pure workhorse on the 4th line.
