Proposal: NYI-CHI (Draft pick swap)

i think its way more likely that NYI would trade with SJ then Chicago. you cannot trade down and then possibly not get your guy. but how about a 3 team trade.

NYI hagens #28 #33 from SJ and #34 from Chicago
SJ gets scaefer
chicago gets MISA
If I was guessing here Chicago would probably be the team adding the extra pick, the difference from 1 -> 2 is not as big as from 2 -> 3. You probably could take away San Jose's 33 and exchange it for Islander get their 2026 2nd rounder back from Chicago

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say you're a Hawks fan?

It absolutely costs Chicago more to get from Hagens/Martone to Misa than it costs the Sharks to get from Misa to Schaefer.

I dont understand as Blackhawks fan why Islanders would want out of #1
Irrational reaction over getting a surprise #1 pick (and maybe not having much familiarity with the options). Things have settled a bit on the board and I think the debate is more about Schaefer vs. Misa now. I don't think we're trading out.

Also, didn't Grier float the "1OA is for sale" advert a few weeks ago? Wouldn't that suggest they aren't THAT high on Schaefer or maybe he is playing his GMMG chess.
You have to listen just in case.

moving from 1 to 2 would be a bigger cost then moving 2-3 statistically off trade value tables. its also nearly 100% unanimous that Scaefer is BPA in the draft so getting the BPA in the draft is going to cost more then getting the 2nd best player in the draft. it would cost more do do than the 2nd best center for the 1st.

GM's don't consult "trade value tables" when making trades, they negotiate with each other. And for the majority of people, Misa is seen as much closer to Schaefer than he is to the next tier of forwards.

Put it another way: if that was the price, I'd rather let Chicago pay the equivalent of three late 1sts to move to 1st overall and call their bluff that they take Schaefer over Misa. Worst case scenario, the Hawks give up a bunch of assets for a defenseman they don't need and we get the best center anyway.

The 3 also don’t fix the Islanders need of high end talent on offense.
ok that is quite different then saying these 3 guys are minor league type guys when they are not. Blackhawks would have a guy like Ryan Greene, Slaggert, Dach available in Forward group

Still would rather have the pick then the names listed.

Like throw away the trade tables. San Jose wants Schaefer, the Hawks probably want Misa, and I have no idea what the Isles want. I'd just take Schaefer if I'm New York but 2-7 is kind of all over the place depending who you ask.

And I've been Misa is my guy all year. I'd love Martone or Hagens at 3 though. At 5 it gets tougher for me.

Isles win the draft lottery and select #1 overall.

I would prefer Misa or Hagens. If CHI wants Schaefer because they’re already loaded with forwards, would they be interested in swapping picks if they believe SJ would take Schaefer.

NYI- 1st overall

For

CHI- 3rd overall + DAL 2nd in 2025

Chi takes Schaefer and get a potential franchise defenseman that has the skill to match Bedard and the isles draft whoever is left over at 3rd from Misa or Hagens.

Note to Islanders leadership, DO NOT hire this guy as GM.
