Proposal: NYI-CHI (Draft pick swap)

lol why would islanders do this. The hawks traded more to the islanders to move from 20 to 18.

Islanders probably can use the forward more than defense. Unless you sold Schaefer is the next Cal Makar might not be worst move to move down 2 spots to take the guy you want and pick up extra picks

Isles win the draft lottery and select #1 overall.

I would prefer Misa or Hagens. If CHI wants Schaefer because they’re already loaded with forwards, would they be interested in swapping picks if they believe SJ would take Schaefer.

NYI- 1st overall

For

CHI- 3rd overall + DAL 2nd in 2025

Chi takes Schaefer and get a potential franchise defenseman that has the skill to match Bedard and the isles draft whoever is left over at 3rd from Misa or Hagens.
Chicago is already with DEFENCEMEN not forwards…

Absolutely not from the NYI.

At bare minimum, it would take an additional first round pick to move up from 3rd to 1st. And even then, I'd have to think about it:

To Chicago: 2025 first overall

To NYI: 2025 third overall, conditional Chicago 2026 first round pick (top-3 protected, rolls over to 2027 unprotected if that condition is met for 2026)

I think the notion is that we’d be more than fine with any of the 3
Unlikely.
If I'm GM and a head scout finds the top 3 all the same, I'm firing the head scout. It's their job to have an opinion, and this isn't some random 5th rounders, but a handful of players forming the very top layer of the draft. That scouting team had better have an opinion.

Not true.

Schaefer projects to be a 1D. Can never have enough of those.

Schaefer-Rinzel
Vlasic-Levshunov

The nastiest top 4 in the league. Who would pass that up?
Nashville had something like that, weren't able to win a cup though. End of the day, as good as your defense is, you still need offense.

Misa projects as a 1C with a strong 2-way game. Can never have too many 1C caliber players either

Teams ONLY move down when they're okay with the pieces where they'll land.

They don't give a discount for doing so.

It's a 1st at minimum (and the estimated cost to go from 3 to 1 is about 9th overall)

Trading down means losing control. Someone else might trade up and take the guy you like.

Just pick the guy you like.
Yup a 2nd just isn't worth it especially if the Sharks really want a certain guy and are willing to overpay . I guess the question is do both teams have the same strategy of BPA and do they both have the same guy as BPA?
Schaefer or Misa seem really intriguing and as a nucks fan I've witnessed what a truly special 1D can do but the problem is it's much harder for dmen to hit their hype and while Misa isn't a guarantee either, forwards are usually more transferable.

Dahlin is a good example, one hell of a Dman that had just as much and more hype than Schaefer and while he's definitely a stud he's not even the best Dman from his draft.
Tough choice but colour me jealous for getting to have that choice.

San Jose trading up makes a lot more sense than Chicago.

I could see a swap in exchange for Dallas's 1st and SJ 2nd this year. Two picks around 30 feels like the right value.

Given we traded our 2nd to Chicago in 2026 I wouldn't mind getting a good draft pick back this year and a 2nd next year. Assuming Islanders want Hagen, I think Chicago actually has the accumulated draft picks to make this deal(Islander can use extra picks to stock up the prospect pool)

Chicago has the assets, I just don't know if they value Schaefer enough as compared to Misa / Hagens, given their backlog on D.

On the other hand, San Jose would be desperate for a franchise defenseman.

As someone who’s torn on who to pick out of Schaffer, Hagens and Misa and sees a need for all, I’d be down with this.

I think this is an effective retool option. Right now I’d like Schaffer, but adding a late first and second.. with an extra first in the pocket next year we’d have effectively retooled. That’s four picks in the top two rounds this year and two firsts next year.

San Jose gets their big guy on D.

Don’t need to sell players now. Take Misa two, keep Pulock and Dobson and clean up the pool. You’d have Ritchie, Misa, Eiserman and Nelson coming through the ranks.

Only young guys we have (and who I like for all) are Dobson, Romanov and Holmstrom.

Now we’re working with waves of hopeful talent to Sorokin, Horvat and Barzal.

But also, the thought of running

Pelech-Dobson
Romanov-Deangelo
Shaffer-Pulock

The next two years is so appealing, then jumping up Schaffer after he grows.

The Sharks are the team to extort a piece or two from they really need Schaefer.

Agreed.

I think it would be nuts for Chicago to trade their 26 1st to draft Misa. He’s good, but he’s not a Bedard/Celebrini or even Fantilli or Carlsson.

Stay put at 3 and take Martone or whoever.

If the ask is the Toronto 1st I’d probably do it.
