I get the Chicago fans who are wee bit unhappy with giving up an extra pick in this move.
In general though, Chicago has done a lot of drafting in recent years and even now has 16(!) picks in the first three rounds alone over the next three drafts.
At this rate, the team will basically have to move prospects in deals or watch them walk when their rights expire because there just won't be enough contract space for them all, much less a role in the system.
More darts is more darts, for sure. But gotta think Davidson has a good eye on this factor when looking at the steps the organization will be needing to take in the coming years.
Moving abundance in order to upgrade your shot at the guys your scouts truly want is a weighted decision.
This all said, the timing of the deal will seem odd until a further move by one of these teams perhaps sheds some light on why this happened now.
