Nurse DoPS hearing for cross checking Quinton Byfield - suspended 1 game (Mod Warning Post #136)

That reminds me of the Todd Bertuzzi-Steve Moore incident. I understand that it's difficult to prove intent, but punishing players solely based on consequences is meaningless when a malicious intent was clearly there but said player failed to accomplish what he really wanted.
No that was Binnington chopping down Perry and then crushing his head against the ice buy jumping on him with his full weight.
Nurse headlock+ take down was exactly what Byfield did behind the net for his penalty earlier in the game. The crosscheck at the back of the helmet with a man down got him his 5+game.

Horrible play.

Edmonton is about to have to call up guys from the ECHL at this rate. Who would probably play better than Nurse in the post season anyways

It’s soft to have an issue w a guy cross checking another guy who is prone and defenseless in the back of the head?

Dude, you’re hilarious
In the back of the head? Did you see the replay? It was the top of his helmet.

The only thing hilarious is the amount of exaggerating here. Was it a dumb play? Absolutely. Did it deserve a major penalty based on the head contact? Probably. Is Byfield going to be OK?

Should watch it again. Also, the helmet doesn't protect you from a concussion.

He didn't come back out last night and every indication so far is he's not back tonight either.

So finish your thought...does it matter if Byfield plays tonight or is done for the year?

"I'm okay with it if it didn't seriously injure him" is a hell of a way to evaluate it.

One last time for posterity before I bow out:

-Repeat offender, year over year over year now
-Losing blowout game vs confirmed playoff opponent
-Star player one of the hottest in league and kings leader for last third of season
-dead play, whistle had already gone, nothing unusual done by Byfield
-defenseless face down player
-premeditated—nurse already mad at previous whistle, tried to horse collar QB and he wouldn’t go down, missed on first big head crosscheck and DDTed him to ice here before crosscheck driving head into ice
-QB injured and did not return, no update for tonight

No one has had any reasonable rebuttal to the above, it's all just 'vibes' arguments, "probably" a major lmao, there is no rational discussion to be had with folks who defend it with incidents from different games like Perry/Binnington.

That’s certainly an over exaggeration of the events from Binnington…

We're at a time of the year where players are being sat out to prevent injury.

Whether you like it or not, the result of the play matters significantly when it comes to the punishment. I wouldn't put it past the Kings to sit him following that play considering how important of a player he is for them.

I didn't argue the game misconduct. Had no issue with it. But I see plenty of exaggerating when people are calling it 'driving his head into ice'. If that happened, Byfield wouldn't have gotten up.

Anyways, we're not going to convince each other of the other POV. So let's not go in circles.

Actually, it does, which is why you wear them. I assume you meant that it doesn't necessarily prevent them.

This is why I'd like to know Byfield's status. If, in fact, Byfield has a concussion and is expected to miss time, then a suspension is warranted.

Is there such a thing as a concussion helmet? The answer is a resounding NO! Helmets are important and very effective against localized head injuries such as skull fractures but they have limited effectiveness against concussions.

That’s a really weird spot for the “top of his helmet” to be….

Should Nurse be limited from playing for the exact same amount of time as Byfield? That seems to be a recurring theme from the “my guy” side of the table.

I wonder how Oilers fans would feel about someone like Edmonson eating a suspension for a similar play on their top center.

If Parros doesn't make an example out of this guy it's exactly what the league is asking for. For some strange reason Nurse gets paid 9 mil a season to injure Kings players.
9.25 for 5 more years.

Nurse is an amateur hour clown. Twig tap on the helmet does absolutely nothing. Big guy like Byfield, you wanna rub him out while he’s skating along the boards, really get low and get that thigh/hip into the side of the knee and then fall over and pin that leg underneath you.

It does neither from stopping the brain from bouncing around like a pinball.
