Byfield is a promising young star who has been a key player for the Kings down the stretch. For a repeat offender to attempt a face slam on another player then cross-check the back of his head when he raises it up off the ice is without question intent to injure. Embarrassing for anyone to try to explain away Nurse's actions.

I get that the NHL isn't all that serious about head injuries, but surely this case will result in a multi game suspension, especially given that these two teams are about to meet in a heated playoff series.

If a repeat offender from LA did the same thing to McDavid it's guaranteed that Oilers fans would be calling for a long suspension or a lifetime ban rather than minimizing what happened.

Who knows what to expect from the wheel of justice? Matthews (with zero fines and zero suspensions) got 2 games for something that was at least part of a two sided net battle. Nurse has 3 prior suspensions and wasn't in a two sided net battle and took the liberty of throwing a parting shot to the back of the head of the prone player AFTER the initial shot. Obviously by the rules, the prior suspensions have a shelf life.

Multiple Oiler fans with this same embarrassing take in this thread. This is a clear cut incident, unless of course you consider the tribes to be reality vs fantasy.

This is 2012 Vancouver all over again. The whole organization is on tilt and will wilt at the slightest pressure. Kings in 5.

-dead play, whistle had already gone, nothing unusual done by Byfield
-defenseless face down player
-premeditated—nurse already mad at previous whistle, tried to horse collar QB and he wouldn’t go down, missed on first big head crosscheck and DDTed him to ice here before crosscheck driving head into ice
-QB injured and did not return, no update for tonight


Im sure he'll get the regular season game but should also get at 2 playoff games given he already only got one for f***ing HEADBUTTING Danault. There's history and LOTS of context, hard to see this as any sort of accident or simple heat of the moment overreaction. And don't get me wrong if DOPS is serious I'd want more than the above but I think that's fair and realistic.

The players that were on tilt will be playing sub 12 mins or not at all. Biggest clown all game was max jones and he won’t see the ice unless the oilers still have 8 people injured

No Ekholm for Rd 1. EDM has 1 reg season game left. So, Nurse is going to get 1 or 2 PO games as well. Will need McDrai to dominate a game to return with a split in LA.
