Nurse DoPS hearing for cross checking Quinton Byfield - suspended 1 game (Mod Warning Post #136)

Omg this comment can't be real. Plays like that don't happen all the time. They're actually pretty rare. Jamie Benn got suspended for it in the playoffs a couple years ago.
I’m pretty sure he would completely understand if the roles were reversed.

I’m

I understand it’s your star player and he could potentially be hurt so you feel some way about this but the first half of the play is dime a dozen in today’s game, I’m sure even you can agree with that. The second part, which was one punch exactly, can be understood as dirty. Which is what the match penalty was assessed for.

If you wanna hate on Nurse, do something about it on the ice. Don’t go crying to mommy just because your team doesn’t have big bad boys anymore like they used to. Some of these comments make it look like he left the ice on a stretcher after eating multiple slams

Yo this is a wild take considering what Nurse got ejected for, completely out of pocket. Sometimes you just have to come to terms with a player on the team you support rightfully getting ejected and likely suspended.

Helll I support a team that had Matthew Tkachuk on it. When he elbowed Doughty in the nose he deserved to get suspended. It was a clear intent to injure to by a frustrated player, even if he was on my team and one of our better players. I don't know how you can see this any differently.

Not quite as blatant as Reilly last year but one shade below. My guess is one regular season game and one playoff game.

Also you'd want to see more of a reaction from the rest of the Kings there ...

Fiala grabs him but the refs were quick to break it up because they were right there.

Proven wrong. Just watch the video. That kind of "takedown" is not common. And I'm not going to argue with someone who thinks it is.
Perhaps in the 70s this would be acceptable.
But its not the 70s. I mean the NHL is trying to eliminate fighting because of concussions. Times have changed and things like what nurse did should never be allowed in the sport

This was a crosscheck to the head opposed to the body. If it was to the body, it would be a 2 minute minor for crosschecking/roughing.

However, the puck was loose and Byfield has every right to play the puck. Nurse's crosscheck was too high and he made contact to the head twice.

Three to four games.

People here saying that Nurse is inviting the Kings to do the same to McDavid or Draisaitl clearly haven’t watched a lot of Kings hockey. The Oilers pull this shit every year before the playoffs and LA has zero pushback or retaliation.

Kings fans have been BEGGING for years for someone to step up and take a shot at McDrai but they never do and we’re reduced to cheering when Pietrangelo or Soucy or Zadorov do our dirty work for us in the next round.

Basic psychology proves your comment to be true hence why these heated arguments from both sides happen. The side that endured a loss is going to feel more strongly about a situation than the side that has something to gain. Oilers fans have seen the violent shit our guys have taken and given and I’ve been on both sides of these arguments as I’m sure so have you. Doesn’t mean the side who endured the loss is always right.

100% intent to injure but the nhl looks sideways on these kinda plays

I agree with the game misconduct and could even agree to maybe a one/two game suspension for regular season however that window is closed now. For a playoff game suspension though? Idk

I sincerely do hope Byfield is ok and was just held out for precautionary reasons. Kings had no reason to put him back into the game even if he was fine. They pulled Kuemper too

So you’re telling me, if Nurse hadn’t given that one extra punch and just based on that takedown alone, that play would have been “dirty” “intent to injure” and “suspension worthy”

Take downs like that happen during board battles and forechecking all the time, this one just happened to be close to the blue paint

Try again.
And watch the video this time with your eyeballs. You know the part of your body that allows you to see things?

Qb was lying on the ice. That has no place in hockey be it the NHL or beer league
