Got asked a question by a couple of people regarding the bid nullification rules about what happens if a team goes over the roster limit and the hard cap. So to clarify:

  1. There are two ways to bust: (1) in terms of cap, and (2) in terms of roster size. Each roster is to have 20 players with a hard cap of $100m. The minimum value for each player is $1.0m, and the maximum value for a player is $81.0m. Rosters cannot exceed $100m in cap at any point during the game, nor can they exceed 20 players.Effective cap is calculated by adding together two things:(a) the amount of cap already spent on players; and(b) the remaining number of players required to complete a 20-man roster. For example, a GM has spent $50.0m on 5 players, which means they need 15 players to complete their roster. Since a player's mimimum value is $1.0m, we know that the cheapest possible complete roster would be $50.0m + (15 players * 1.0m) = $65.0m.

    (1) Cap BustCap Busts only occur if the GM's roster size is less than or equal to 20. Cap Busts are calculated using the effective cap hit.In the event that a GM has a winning bid that will cause them to exceed the $100.0m hard cap, that winning bid will be discarded. If the GM has multiple winning bids, then the most expensive one will discarded. This process loops until the GM is cap compliant. In the event of equal bids, the player whose name comes first alphabetically will be selected.ExampleA GM is $30m over the cap. The GM has won Players A, B, C and D with bids of $20m, $7m, $5m and $5m. Working from highest to lowest, the GM would have Player A $20m, Player B $7m and--due to alphabetical order--Player C $5m.. (edited)

    (2) Roster BustWhen a GM has enough winning bids to exceed the roster limit of 20 players, their lowest bids sorted alphabetically will be rendered void until they reach 20 players. If the player is not cap compliant at 20 players, then the most efficient combination of voiding bids will be applied. This combination will be alphabetically prioritized in the event of equal winning bids.ExampleGM has won bids for Players A, B, C, D and E for $10m, $7m, $5m, $3m and $1m. They have 22 players, and their cap hit is $105m.While discarding Player D and Player E brings the roster size down to 20 players, it only brings the cap down to $101m. The smallest combination possible would be Player C $5m and Player E $1m, so those players will have their bids voided.

nice formatting

tl;dr: hard cap 100m, can't go over. hard cap 20 player roster, can't be over or under by end of game.

(1) if you have less than 20 players and go over cap, then your highest winning bids are nullified until you're compliant

(2) if you have more than 20 players and go over cap, then the smallest combination of winning bids to get you cap & roster compliant will be used

commissioner judgment to be used to prevent exploiting the over 20 players smallest combo process

you can thank nuck for the kindness of smallest combo
