Confirmed Trade: [NSH/NJD] Erik Haula for Jeremy Hanzel and 2025 4th round pick

Man, this guy moves around a lot.

Didn't he play for NSH already?

That Hanzel guy should go to Tampa and play on a line with Guentzel...

Hanzel and Guentzel.... the Brothers Grimm.

If NJ wanted to move Haula, they should have paid the Preds a 4th to take him, not the other way around. The Preds have plenty of old depth filler in the lineup already. They do have Cap space to burn, however. So taking on a warm body like Haula, ok, but the Preds should have been paid to do it, if they were just leveraging their Cap space as a tanking team.
:help:

You are assuming Haula is toast. He was injured all last season. He is still a top penalty killer who at minimum will win faceoffs. No chance the Devils would attach a pick for ONE year of Haula. HE might return to his 15 goal 30 point form. Now Palat on the other hand.....

I think we have a pretty good idea in Nashville of who Haula is. He was a pretty industrious but overall not greatly effective forward for us a few years ago. He's not better today. 15g/30pts is indeed probably what he'll get, considering our dumb coach will definitely overplay a 34-year old guy instead of any younger/better players.

Which is all fine if you are filling a vacant bottom-6 slot on a contending team. It's just a dumb move for a totally tanking/rebuilding team like the Preds who should be allocating that icetime instead to a young player who might have some upside in the organization.

When I look at the Preds from an outsiders perspective I see a team that had a bad year. Not a team in need to rebuild. To me, it seems the same team can come back this year and make the playoffs. Does not seem like a rebuild situation to me. Every year is diferent and last year was a bad one for them. They will make some moves but, I would think its not necessary to make HUGE changes or blow up the team. Having Haula if you get into the playoffs is a plus.

Genuine question: who does Nashville replace in the playoffs in the West next year?

Exactly. It's a total pipedream if anybody thinks that Nashville can make the playoffs in 2025-26.

I mean, "miracles have happened" in the past. But you couldn't bet on it.

So what's the point of adding a veteran bottom-6 player? The team is almost certainly going nowhere, whether you add that warm body or not. Trotz is just totally out to lunch, alas. :help:

It's going to be tough. STL is on an upwards trajectory, probably MN. WPG, CO, Dallas, EDM, LA are too far ahead. CAL finished the season off strong, and I like where Utah is heading. Can't write off VAN, if EP comes back healthy - having a legit #1C and #1D is a nice place to start. NSH's peers are CHI, SJS, maybe SEA and ANA, though I think ANA has a chance to really improve if they have a decent coach.

Anaheim brought in Quenneville already so it's fair to say they have a decent coach.

The Predators only chance of getting in the playoffs this year is with a ticket. They may be historically bad this season, and all while not committing to a rebuild. Just organically terrible.

Oh god, you again? Do you just follow me around?

I'm sorry, you accuse me of following you around? good gravy. It's a NJ thread, I'm a NJ fan. the only interaction we ever have is in threads about the Devils. I don't chase you around in neutral or Rangers related threads because I'm not a lunatic. You showing up in a NJ thread to offer nasty comments is routine for you and as a Rangers fan it's obviously just designed to flame the NJ fanbase as your ongoing post history shows. Me following you around. Hah. Just own your trolldom. It's fine. This thread has nothing to do with the Rangers and your comment does not address the trade and frankly only highlights your ignorance of NJ's cap situation. Your message only exists for one purpose as do all of your messages in NJ threads. Please stop feigning innocence. It's embarrassing.

Yea, i’m not reading some long winded crazy post of you trying to justify your stalking me lmao. I’m sure you’ll eventually realize you are on the communal section on the Boards and not in the devils sub.

Take the L and own it. Really, it's part of the fun at this point.

Potentially doesn't make sense for the Devs either. They are already cap strapped (Luke extension and difficult to move contracts with restrictive clauses). They were light on Center depth before this and have ZERO Centers in the pipeline. So now the Devs desperately need 2 Centers with still limited cap. Idk why you'd make this move before being certain you could get at least 1 top 9 C (that isn't Cody f'n Glass). GM Tom Fitzgerald's kink is dealing from weakness with the least leverage possible though so....
They just signed random euro guy on a one way last week , and could use Glass at 4C . I’m guessing they wanted to free up room to sign a better 3c than Haula . I’m sure Fitz isn’t done yet and the end result will be a better bottom 6 than before . Haula was toast . Getting rid of him is a positive .
