Confirmed Trade: [NSH/NJD] Erik Haula for Jeremy Hanzel and 2025 4th round pick

It's only a 4th, they'll probably get more back at the deadline when they stink again. Trotz is terrible in general, but what's the big deal here?
Oh I don't know: perhaps it has something to do with Haula being redundant to what we already have, is probably going to get more average ice time than Evangelista and has a hefty cap hit.

Or maybe 7/12 forwards being 30+ just isn't a good look and counter productive for a team that finished third last the previous year.

Take your pick.

I'd be worried about that too. If Nashville had any young players worthy of the ice time. Or a coaching staff that could develop young players. They probably have neither. Certainly not the coaching staff.

? We have a shit ton of young guys that should be getting time.
Like who? Svechkov and ZLH were already in the NHL last year. Maybe Kemell deserves a shot. That's basically it at forward, can't see an argument for anyone else being NHL ready.

Why? l never understood why people thought he was immoveable or had negative value
Because a lot of people are clueless. Haula can play C or W, only had a 6 team clause, and 1 year left at $3.15. He was always gonna be easy to move in this cap environment. TBD on if this is a smart move for either team...depends on what Devs can do considering they were already blatantly desperate for another C or 2....now they definitely need 2 and have limited cap.

Idk. If I'm the Devs GM, I don't make this move unless I am 100% sure I'm getting a playable C on a non horrific contract. And idk how Fitz could be certain of that at this point.

Haula is 100% going to recoup the fourth line pick come trade deadline with retention. Maybe even get up to a late second too.

It’s good asset management from Trotz here.

I still think Haula is useful at his cap hit. Not a huge fan of dumping him, but depends what Fitz has in store for his salary.

Kemell, Wood, Surin, no.5. It would be nice for Svechkov ZLH and Evangelista to get more than 7-12 minutes a night.
Surin is 18 and has never played outside of Russia.

Wood turned 20 this year and hasn't played any pro hockey outside of 6 games in Nashville last year.

No one has any idea who the 5th pick will be. To say any of those are NHL ready is a huge stretch right now.

Svechkov and ZLH averaged a bit over 12 minutes per game, respectable for rookies. Evangelista averaged 14, if he didn't get more than that on the tire fire last year, he probably wasn't going to next season either, regardless of the roster composition. The coaching staff can't develop young players anyway, less ice time with them is probably better.

Because they can flip him at the next deadline. A 4th is hardly a high price to pay
Yeah understand that but don't think it's a guarantee he returns a high 4th or better, but sure it's a low risk move even if he doesn't do that. Not worth getting too worked up about but does still feel anti-tank a bit when given draft caliber, tank = good.

We have a drafts worth of picks in the top 3 rounds this year, probably worth it to try and get a mid pick next year at the deadline.

He's a "gritty" veteran that can win face-offs and PK very well. I'll be completely shocked if some GM isn't happily giving up at least a 3rd for that at the deadline. Tanev got a 2nd last year and he's a winger.
