I'm not thrilled as a Preds fan tbh, I'd rather Poile be re-couping assets for Ekholm and Forsberg but he's more than happy to keep us in our current state of complete averageness to mediocrity.
Great deal though.

Is there an NMC? This is a sweetheart deal and does nothing but significantly increase Ekholm’s trade value if the Preds tear it down at the deadline. The guy is probably a #1 on half the teams in the league and is now locked in through the rest of his best years at an unbelievable AAV. Teams will pay through the nose for this. No more lame “but he’s just a rental” nonsense offers. A locked up Ekholm is worth a TON.
And even then we only missed 2 playoffs.Ekholm won't be moved now, Poile made his decision when he shipped out Ellis instead. Ekholm is essentially the experienced vet there to help the young guys if for nothing else. He can play with just about anyone.
Poile rebuilds/retools on the fly. The only time he traded off a bunch guys was when he was forced to by the owner when the team hit the market.
This is the last year of his contract.I get why both sides do this, could work out well for Nashville but don't love signing 31 year olds a year early before they go UFA, and like getting another season to try and understand their age curve / decline.

This. I suspect he's going to be keeping the team at competitive levels while developing what kids we do have, and keeping an eye out for picks, but not selling the farm. He doesn't go scorched-earth unless explicitly ordered to do so.
