Value of: Now how Much Would You Pay Marner

I'm gunna guess its Anaheim. Just because he's the biggest fish and they seem to want to spend. Then after a disappointing season away from each other, at the 2026 draft Toronto and Anaheim reunite the BFFs with Matthews heading to socal

I think he’ll be fine on a diff team… I’d sign him in Anaheim for 12-13

Are you watching him play in these playoffs?

Players don't suddenly get courage with a change of scenery. This guy simply does not think he needs to pay a physical price to play in the playoffs. He won't do it. He won't take hits, he won't go to the dirty areas, he won't drive the net, he won't battle for pucks.

I don't see how a different team will change that.

He also is over a PPG in the playoffs.

Sens would kill for Marner. Blues Wild Capitals Jets Hawks Sharks Ducks Bruins Flyers Blue Jackets.

Marner is tied for 6th in points these playoffs. He can't be the guy in the playoffs, but the issue with the Leafs has always been that the mix just doesn't ****ing work. They should have frankly shaken it up the core before the issue was forced on them (and when they could have gotten a haul or a better fit in a trade), but the way the series has gone they probably have to win to even consider trying to going back to the same old core.

His playoff performance breaks down to 8 points in 6 games versus a young and clearly outmatched Ottawa, and four points in 6 games versus an actual contender in Florida.

... That kinda just supports the point that he's easily neutered when it comes to tough hockey.

It's kind of funny reading this thread, and realizing we still don't quite understand the new NHL salary landscape.
Guys who score 100 points, play on the team's 1st PP, can play on a 1st PK, right handed, RW... He'll get absolutely paid.

It's worth noting that in this Florida series he's received a steady diet of Sasha Barkov. In the playoffs there's no hiding. There's no catching the other team snoozing. You're getting a 1D, 1C treatment every night.

Losing to Florida isn't a knock, they're well on their way to Cup 2.

Marner in Anaheim under Quenneville would probably work out for everyone. Less media attention and gets a soft reset on his career.

Getting to playoffs is step 1 for Anaheim
Fixing our powerplay, which he would help.

less pressure in Anaheim than Toronto

in what world if 4 points in 6 games in the playoffs 'bad'?
Reinhart leads Florida in points and has 2 less points than Marner.
He also 4 points this series, with 2 coming in last nights blowout. both have a +/- of 0 this series too with the exact same 1G, 3 A.
I dont hear people saying that Reinhart is neutered, and he is a 50+ goal scorer not a setup guy.

Ya if the goal is to just make the playoffs, Marner will help check that box

Issue with Marner is that he isn't built for post season hockey, but will demand to be the top paid winger in the game.

Making the playoffs is fun and all, but getting there and watching your marquee player get completely sonned by players making 1/3 of what he makes is infuriating. His subsequent comments in the media are even worse, when he doubles down on his ineffective play.

Easy to sit back and craft a team on paper - but I'm telling you first hand, Marner is not worth the pricetag. His regular season play is a mirage and his style is completely ineffective in tight checking, playoff games.

His play vs his cap hit make him a net-negative player.

It's not just losing, it's the way it's happening.

This play has nothing to do with who is defending him. This is something you do in junior or the All-Star game, not the most important game of the season. Not only does a have a hilarious giveaway, he doesn't even work to correct his mistake on the backcheck. He just loses all sense of reason sometimes when the games get tough. There's a reason he has 5 puck over glass penalties in the playoffs, more than he does in all his regular season games. He loses his mind and becomes a completely different player.

He should definitely go to a bad team that has no pressure where he can live a good life putting up points in meaningless games.

whoever wins this series is the likely favorite to make the finals ...no offense to Carolina. Based off of the Leafs implosion last night, its leaning Fla hard, especially with Stolarz not able to return

He is always hearing footsteps.

He has five puck over glass penalties becuase he plays scared against physical teams.

Anybody who is impressed by the point totals he put up against Ottawa doesn't understand the issue.

The issue with Marner is when then things get physical, when the game gets chippier and there's less time and space, he cowers and plays afraid.

Ottawa is not a punishing team and that series, despite the "history" of the two clubs, had no bad blood and wasn't very chippy or physical at all.

Florida is a different animal and Marner, as he always does, has wilted and cowered when the game gets tougher.

If he can't coast by on talent, he seems to lose interest.

It would be interesting if Pat Verbeek's biggest move as a General Manager was to bring in a player that couldn't be more different than Verbeek was as a player.

Verbeek was a tiny ball of a hate. He played every game like he was angry at the opponent and despite his size, he played a very physical, tough, punishing style.
