Most bottom feeders/very fringe teams should easily offer 14 if not 15+ for him.

It's an overpayment for sure, but factored into that contract would be the fact that many of them are not FA destinations to begin with, so it's not like saving 2-4 million here and there does anything.

Yes. We saw him produce at the 4 nations. If he's under a point per game in the playoffs I will consider that a Leafs issue not a Marner issue.

Comps would be guys like Matthews, Panarin, Pastrnak, and Rantanan (looking at stats for the last 5 years).

Matthews - Cap% at signing - 15.06% or 14.39m in 25-26 dollars
Panarin - Cap% at signing - 14.29% or 13.65m in 25-26 dollars
Pastrnak - Cap% at signing - 13.47% or 12.87m in 25-26 dollars
Rantanan - Cap% at signing - 12.57% or 12m in 25-26 dollars

So he's likely going to be looking for 12-13.5m just based on comps. I think Matthews being a center makes him a more valuable piece so I don't think he gets more than 13.5m.

Is he worth it? Time will tell. His stats historically point to a player worth that type of money.

I think you have to add in a premium if he actually gets to market and teams are bidding. And I think you have to add a premium because so many teams have cash.

Go back and look at the shit Marner has pulled. The disappearing act in the playoffs, the glove throwing tantrum on the bench, the god status comment. He even took a shit on Jake Muzzin one time after an accidental collision at practice. You can get two pretty good players for 13.5 or 14 million.

A lot for the islanders. I don’t know if we’re in a position to sign him but he’d instantly become the best player on the team and would bring much needed offense. He elevate the guys around him and make them better.

A Holmstrom- Horvat- Marner would be awesome.
