Value of: Now how Much Would You Pay Marner

13 x 8 million.

Then sign Knies for that tasty 7 x 8.25

Hell...bring back Tavares for discount 7 mil x 5.

53 mil for 5 players. Real nice!

Enter Cap hell.
Marner has playes 90% of this season on a line with Knies Matthew or Knies Tavares.

He plays #1 PP with Matthews, Tavares, Nylander and Knies.

Marner is 18th in the league in 5v5 points/60 and "might" hit 100 points for the first time in his career. Also is dreadful in the playoffs.

What happens when he goes to a team not surrounding him with this talent?

Hoping someone else pays him. Softest player in the league and its not close. Tired of watching him spin around in open areas waiting for his linemates to dig the puck loose for him... or watching his linemates crash the crease and screen goalies for him, meanwhile when they get the puck, Marner is standing on against the boards or near the blueline.

This was his effort in game 4 of the playoffs last season (leafs in thir way to 7/8 years without a 2nd round appearance) as a Leaf assistant captain. Such a pathetic effort that two different broadcasts do intermission segments on his pathetic chicken $%$$ play:

Here are a couple other videos of playoff Mitch where he pulls the chute to avoid being hit. Allowing the opponent to have possession of the puck:

This is just the beginning of the videos. Please somebody else take him lol.

A Leafs fan who sees what the rest of us see. Are you even real?

Marner should get at least 7x$15M if he goes UFA. There are enough teams with enormous Cap space.

If instead he likes Toronto, likes his endorsement income, and likes at least the Leafs' baseline level of annual competitiveness vs alternative options, maybe he could stay for 8x$13M? That's a reasonable choice too.

As a player, I would definitely wait until July 1st to collect those offers and see what wins out, anyway. There is no way I sign before July 1st. Unless Toronto comes in and offers like 8x$16M or something like that which completely blows any possible competition out of the water. :dunno:

I can see San Jose or Chicago make an offer like this, since Marner will solidify the defense on the top line, and can help take Celebrini/Bedard to the next level on the ice.
Heck, even Buffalo can make an offer like that, but, that team seams cursed, as they were more than a year ahead of the Leafs in their rebuild, and didnt draft any busts either, but, nothing seems to work there.

I guess it also comes down to just how happy he is in his current situation. 7 or 8 years is a BIG life commitment. It's his final remaining "prime" seasons as a hockey player. Probably his last BIG contract. To me, if I was basically happy in Toronto, I'd stay there vs. jumping into some rebuilding cycle in some new city for a few $$$ more. I don't see the point in dithering over an extra $10M or so if you're going to make $100M either way. Happiness is more important. :dunno:

he may be the Vladdy of the Leafs, wants to retire a Leaf, but, wants to get paid like the best 2-3 players in the league, even though he hasnt been at the top 2-3 players level

Getting paid like the best 2-3 players in the league today - at the onset of a forthcoming paradigm shift in NHL salaries with a huge Cap increase incoming - means he'll probably be paid like the 50th-best player by the end of it. So it's a balancing act. He'll average out to like #10-20 over the term of the contract, which is fair.

Toronto should not offer more than 12M. He is not worth more than Rantanen or Nylander. If he wants more than 12M he can walk

marner will not be resigned until shanahan is givin a new contract or fired. Shanny’s last year to

He'll get paid based on production.
There's no denying how much skill this player has in general, the handedness, the fact he can be your PP1/PK1 helps a lot. His game also won't fall off because he really doesn't play hard minutes.

There will be a number of teams giving out big deals for Marner. Essentially anyone who can fit him under their cap. I expect Carolina to make a BIG push here.

That is fine, but Toronto fans better come to terms with the fact that they will no longer have this player. Someone is going to give him 14M and he has no reason not to take it.

Did you miss the game last night?

He isn't getting a nickel more because of a one off game. He has been an integral part of a team with several elite forwards that has WON ONE SERIES starting in 2017.

His RS production will get him $12M, but he needs to be an important contributor to a team that beats TB & FLA to push it to $14M. If they lose 1st Round a smart GM isn't going more than $12M.

Sucks to see you turn on him 7 years later. Right when he’s at his very best and one of the most dangerous players in the world.

I think you will miss him if he ends up leaving.

Whatever though, man.

Except he's not, he is a great season player that turns into a mediocre 1st liner, good 2nd liner come playoff time. He wants McDrai money, but he's no McDrai.

He has had 9 playoff series to show what he's made of, one can make the case he was fantastic vs Tampa, except he followed that up with 1 goal and 3 points in 5 games vs Florida, the Leafs lost 3 out of 4 games by 1 goal.

So far in terms of taking over playoff series, he is 1/9. He can go somewhere and win, but so what? He'll never be a bus driver, only a bus rider. He's like Kessel 2.0, a fantastic complimentary guy, but he's never going to be the guy.

He wants Matthews money. He's in negotiations with the idiots that signed that contract, not the Oilers.

I wanted him at the draft. Not sure what this quote from 7 years is supposed to be about. This is before his constant playoff performance disappointments. Even now I would pay him the same as Rantanen which is 12M - but if he wants anything more he's just a cancer to the team

Well okay fair enough, But I'm not wrong to be a little bit sad reading this stuff coming from Leafs fans
