I may be wrong, but I see him as a Phil Kessel level player. Elite, but not a #1 or #2 most important player in a team. In Kessel’s first cup year, he was the unfair advantage Pittsburgh had on the third line. Crosby on the first, Malkin on the second and Haglin/Bonino/Kessel feasting on the third. But Kessel was overmatched when he was the #1 guy in Toronto.
You were right with the first four words. That is a ridiculous comparison.

Canucks will probably not sign Boeser and go for Marner in the off season. I really think thats what Alvin wants to do. Not sure if they will trade Pettersson but I would do it for the right offer.

Debrusk-Pettersson-Marner

That would be a pretty decent top line imo

Push comes to shove, he's a PPG center, that would solidify our top 6 for a very long time.

I'd be comfortable offering more than we did Rantanen, which was supposedly $14mx8
This is where Canucks should strike while they can get him signed for free without giving up assets. They need offense badly and Marner would give them that. The only offensive elite player Canucks have is Pettersson and even he is now questionable in terms of consistency. So getting Marner would give the Canucks an elite offensive forward that they have been missing this season.

This a lose lose situation for the Leafs. They re-sign Marner to a ridiculous contract and they lose as Marner can’t perform in the playoffs. They let Marner walk and they get nothing for him. Leafs are devoid of picks and prospects as it is…

IF Marner makes to the UFA status…. Every GM in the league is going to back the brinks truck up. There will be a crazy bidding war for him. Best player to hit free agency in years.

Not really, if Marner actually performs in the playoffs, he can stay and get paid.

If he doesn't, he can leave and the Leafs can try and get Ekblad/Bennet to replace him.

The ball as always is in Marner's corner, he failed because of his bad play (along with the other core) and if he wants to run from the grind, let him. He's a great season player, but not even close to great come playoff time.
