Value of: Now how Much Would You Pay Marner

I think I'd go 13.5 - 14. Thankfully the first line is locked up for years at a very digestible cap hit. Hutson will need a big deal and possibly Demidov in 2-3 years. Throws your structure completely out of whack though.
If Montreal is not throwing 15 at Marner then they aren’t serious. It makes sense for the very reasons you said

What’s an extra 1 mil? For a player of his calibre? lol , so we got a deal?

Well, Draisaitl signed for 14 just this past summer. Granted, he wasn't a pursued UFA, but if he didn't think that was at the very least reasonable, he would be this summer. I can't put Marner on the same level as him. And for all the talk of the cap going up, let's see what the sentiment is next year. There's a dipshit moron doing his best to tank the Canadian AND American economies. If a recession hits, what's the first thing that gets cut back? Entertainment/discretionary spending. I'd like to hear the revised guidance from the league in 8-10 months.

Rantanen went for 12m aav, state tax worth probably a mil or just under, so from chicago perspective they could probably offer 13-14m (bad tax premium, 5% state tax)

A lot less than some GM will if he hits free agency....

I wonder if/how much he'll cost himself if he has another stinker POs?

Try to re-sign Boeser as well?
I don’t think MM will go to a Canadian team. I see him in Detroit. Close to TO. Team with a lot of history. Great fans. Younger club in need of elite stars. Imo taking MM from the Leafs and putting him into that Detroit lineup and the two clubs might just switch where they are in the standings.

For Marner, Rantanen case is horrible !!!
That drop a little bit the value.
To me right this summer he will get 12.5 M for 7 years but if Marner really want to win a Stanley cup soon he need to go to a contender team @ 11M

IMO if he hits UFA, he will want to sign with a Team that has the pieces to be a contender right away. IMO LAK makes a lot of sense. Maybe Detroit, Carolina?

If he gets anything close to Draisaitl, the GM that signs the deal should be fired.
But it'll likely be a team with no tax breaks so his father will push for max term and AAV.

Don't see him doing anything under 7 years.

Agreed. And one of those clubs, who are close to contending, will pay him. I just don’t see how the Leafs replace him?

Marner sits at 1st in total points in the regular season and playoffs for Toronto, over the past 20 seasons.
There is no one to replace him. If Toronto lets that point production walk out the door and receive nothing in return....Yikes!.
Toronto is in a tough spot, they have roughly 28 million in Cap Space next season, and that sounds like a lot, However Knies is really the wild card. If Toronto Low Balls him on his extension, he will wait until after July 1 to see if he gets an offer sheet.

If Toronto gets knocked out in the 1st or 2nd round, it will be interesting to see how much changes in Toronto. Nylander, Matthews, and Marner will all be 28-29 next season, There chances of winning a cup are fading each season. When does the TML front office say "This is not working blow it up"

If I'm the Islanders, it's essentially the max amount. Getting a 28 year old like Marner with no other asset cost would be an enormous boon, and they could make it work. When you never sign any huge UFAs, you begin to see the positives such deals bring even if they bring negatives at the end of the deals. And those positives are having a supply of cheap young talent to supplement a team's core. If you can't sign UFA's, you squander that young talent to acquire what you need.

It's not going to happen, but that wasn't the question.

Imo losing Marner on July 1 will be close to “blowing it up”. Like you point out: there is no replacing Marner. If he gets a huge contract by another club on July 1 the Leafs will take a big step back.

Rantanen just got 12, so I'd do that.

I know about state tax, but I think it's stupid to overpay every player on your team due to taxes. Are you trying to win or not?
