Value of: Now how much would you pay Marner?

As a Hawks fan I would hope Chicago offers him $14m x 7, they need to get an elite level player for Bedard to play with and Marner is elite regardless of what some delusional Leafs fans think. The Hawks have the cap space and with the cap going up, Marner at $14m per won’t be a hindrance.

If he doesn’t sign with Hawks, I hope he resigns in Toronto for more than Matthews, somewhere in the $15m - 16m x 8 range just to see the total meltdown of Leafs fans on social media.

I would give him whatever he wants. The Penguins cannot be choosy at all right now. They are a complete shit show. Marner would be our best DEFENSIVE DEFENSEMAN if he were on the team right now. Not to mention best right-winger, best penalty-killer, best all-around forward and best PP setup man.

If Chicago offers $14 million/year, then you offer $15 million/year. If they offer $15, offer $16.

We need Marner more than anybody else, because there currently is no bridge between the 87/71 era and the future. And they have no shot at contending for anything without a star addition.

14 million and how many years he wants.

If he comes to the Pens. Id sign him for 1 year and then give him an 8 year deal.

Or he can ask to be traded to any team with playoff hopes at 7 million 50% and they can sign him for 8 years.

lol this thread is great, everyone loves Marner and thinks he should get paid because he is a star

Can’t wait for the next thread after Marner re-signs so the same people can tell me how the Leafs overpaid this bum
Just under 11 million for a cost controlled asset in the cap environment was definitely bad by Dubas. Especially deals signed after.

In this cap environment on a free asset 14 million is acceptable. I imagine he stays with the Leafs though.

If these guys wait it out, they can get HUGE $$$ with the rising Cap. $15-16M shouldn't be out of the question for Marner or Rantanen.

Just... what's really the difference between 7x$15 = $105M and 8x$12.5 = $100M to them, when it comes right down to it? At that delta they are just going to pick the place they are comfortable in for whatever reason (hometowns, friends, competitive edge, beaches, wives preferences, whatever floats their boat really). :dunno:

In a trade Rantanen for Marner. I know Marner is the better Big Game player recently but Rantanen was ok a couple years ago.

Can't wait to read the thread on July 2 after he signs for 14 mill over 7 with Colorado.
Rantanen has looked like a shell of himself without MacKinnon ...when Rantanen isnt scoring, he's useless.

There are multiple teams that are desperate for that game breaker to push their struggling franchise into contender status: Flames, Red Wings, Columbus, Anaheim, Sharks, Nashville, Buffalo, Chicago, etc... these teams have been languishing in mediocrity for a while and are likely ready to pay large amounts of cash to get that top player.

Marner could get a lot of money if he fits Free Agency, and I think as high a $15 million/year. That being said, if he loves Toronto, he may stay there for slightly less money/year and an extra year. He's from Markham and the Maple Leafs paid him last time, so likely no bad blood.

Marner is almost certainly getting overpaid. Coveted star player hitting UFA status in his peak during a period of massive cap inflation. So both are correct. He'll get paid because he's a star. He'll be overpaid though.
