GDT: Nothing to See Here - Just Another Meaningless March Flames Hockey Game (Vs Canucks @ 7:00 MT)

  • HFBoards is doing server maintenance Thursday March 13th at 9 AM GMT 5 AM EDT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. I just can't put a guy at the top when hey are missing arguably the most important part of their position.

And Makar > Hughes, at least he can provide something that resembles defense. IMO offense from defenseman only counts towards them being one of the best if they can also play in thier own end because anyone that can do both is infinitely more valuable than somoene who can only do one.

I don't think most pundits consider Hughes to be a defensive liability at all. Never hear that ever. He's the current Norris winner and was in the Hart conversation this year before sidelined by injuries.

That's because the pundits and Norris voters only care about offense. They completely ignore the defensive side. It's why fans have been clamouring for a defensive defenseman award for years now.

Shea Weber is the perfect example of what I mean. Dude did everything, 40+ points a year, great defense, great physical play... but never won a Norris despite being the best defenseman in the league throughout the 2010s. The fact Hughes, Fox, Karlsson and Burns have Norris trophies and Weber doesn't is a f***ing travesty.

I don't believe there is anything to prove Hughes is a liability at all defensively. IMO he is phenomenal everywhere. He's just not big, a little similar to Makar.

Weber had a blast of a shot but slowed down a lot in the 2nd half of his career. Probably deserved a Norris though.

C'mon Flames, win this!
