North Bay Battalion 2024 25 Season Thread Part I

Good trade piece for an OA, decent value. Doubt you’ll see anything until the deadline with him though. He’s got all that size but doesn’t use it. Speed isn’t there but if he could match his game to EP21’s style he’d probably be okay. I’d be shocked to see SM24 drafted before Amidovski at this point
may 6 2007 is 24Sm birthday, he is not an oa for 2 more years. He played against other teams top line. Give him time to develop. did not get much icetime in Barriebefore he was trade to Troops. Lets all have a little patience wit this lad

Moses started as RW L1 & PP1, from there played his way down to LW L3. He just is not very good 5 vs 5 and does not kill penalties.

Play Amidovski, Wellenreiter, Therrien, Vaughn; develop Carey and Warren, and let another team be patient with Moses.

I think he is still a good player and likely to only get better from here, but if we’re talking about trade value to get 1-2 quality OA’s to be competitive and lead the young lads Moses carries way more value than our 07 defense pieces. I do still see a far more complete player in Amidovski for the draft though, but last central scouting rankings had Moses higher. I was a big SM24 fan at the beginning of the year but I’m a believer in effort and accountability with a young squad, and there was a noticeable decline that progressed as the year went on. Carey came out flying like a bat out of hell every shift on the 4th line at 16 years old even if we were down 6-1, and Moses played line 1 and pp1 from his first game with our group yet would give up on a shift if the puck couldn’t get past the neutral zone. All I’m saying is there’s a lot of young talent on this team willing to play 100% every shift, and he needs to earn his ice time this year and take that next step. Battalion culture and play style has a reputation for a reason right

Is Wellenreiter back next season? Elite has him playing NCAA next year. The same goes for Kapageridis. If I have the opportunity to get a full scholarship, I'm not sure I put that off in favor of a junior career.

With all the previous NCAA offers made, plus offers this past season to graduating OHL players and rumoured offers to next seasons top 18-19 yr olds, guys like Kapageritis and Wellenreiter probably do not make the line up of NCAA teams until after their OA seasons.
Now that NCAA schools are allowed former OHL players there will be very little need to pay scholarships of practice roster players.

From an earlier post from apfsds;
expand...
NB is only losing 3 players next year. Leblancs and Wigle .
Welly has deferred his NCAA untill 2026
That means they have two overage spots and one import

I’d think the ideal path for the majority of players unless an absolutely dominant superstar would be to play until their 19 year old season and enter the NCAA in what would be their OA season

Have heard both deferred their NCAA commitment another year. Elite isn’t always accurate, they had Charlie Larocque as a right handed catcher most of the year lol

Kunopaski is likely the 7th D this season. I don’t think the battalion go past the January trade deadline with 6-RW and 4-‘07 D. So unless Therrien and Turley are worth considerably more in trade, I expect 1-2 of the ‘07 D and Moses to be moved.
I couldn't believe the way Moses played in the Prospects game. Absolutely amazing. So we know the talent is there. Why he doesn't perform this way is the question ? Maybe not comfortable playing here. True he is still young but his talent is there. We also don't know what goes on in the locker room. Hopefully with a few players leaving this will change.

Maybe the offensive ability and upside can be better utilized at RW on another team. With Amidovski, Wellenreiter, Therrien ahead of him and Vaughn, Ryder, and Warren coming up behind him; Moses will not move up the battalion line up at even strength imo.

Might’ve been a linemate thing. His best hockey was when he and Wellenreiter were together. I found the Moses-Wigle-Vaughan line didn’t have much chemistry. I don’t know if Moses is used to a defensive style of play either. With his size, puck possession and quick hands, he should be a net front/corners type of guy 5 on 5, but he likes to play the rush. I found on many occasions he would hang back and rely on Wigle to do most of the forechecking. He can be dangerous on the PP at the back end, just needs to work on cycling the puck faster and getting his shot off quicker. If he gets drafted and sees an NHL camp and gets some direction, we might see some big progression.

Anyone have any thoughts on what our backup goalie situation will look like next year? Lisson returning, Larocque getting another shot, or a recent draft pick like Nadon or Ceranic?

will we be having a devlopment camp in early May?

Loved getting Warren, didnt see much to get excited about after him in the draft, unlike other recent years.

......that 2nd rounder will be a penalty machine with OHL reffing.........they love head shots.....blind siding....shinny hockey at its finest....

The type that can be found in later rounds, need higher upside in 2nd for me

Gotta give him a chance first. The Vilmanis trade, trading Charlie Robertson instead of McIvor, the Wakely trade, the Ryder Cali situation, picking up Parker Vaughan and Kapageridis, signing Wellenreiter from the BCHL, and getting Warren in the first round, our front office has been wildly successful and I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe this kids Ryan Suter

Kunopaski was selected in an appropriate spot. The fact that the battalion selected a LD over a high upside RD at #29 when there were 6-LD & 2-RD on the roster should tell you all you need to know about how they felt about Kunopaski.
The same thing can be said of Warren. The last thing NB needed was another RW/RC in round one.

In Adam Dennis and John Winstanley we trust

I flashback a few years when Russian Alex Lukin joined the team. He threw big hits for the first month, then either the staff or the league got involved and he became less effective as they took his "physical presence" out of his game. Sounds like Kunopaski has played this style for a few years now. He is much needed on this undersized, soft team moving forward.
