Hey been following this thread for awhile but never registered. Anyone have any info on the prospects camp? Who looked good? Anyone really look out of place? Hearing rumblings of a scout being fired for a particularly bad recruit. Could just be non-sense though.

I wouldn't think they would even think of that imo. This is a poorly run organization from a business stand point. I've been asked 3 times in the past month (from different people), if I will be renewing my seat and I've already answered them 3 times. The last day of renewal was yesterday (June 14), so we will see if I will get my relocated seat that i've asked for.

Thank you -
You definitely have an “embarrassment of riches” for next year !
NB will dominate again no doubt -lots of talent grit and skill-very impressive
Actually, and I am a fan, but NB will lose lots of scoring for this upcoming campaign. No Jackson, MacDonald, Bloom, Petrov, they will also lose one of Arnsby, Zito or Ertle and maybe two of those players. It's going to be tough for them to make the playoffs next year imo. They will have a solid top 4 and one of the best goalies but can they score enough to win?

Also, what is wrong with this organization when it comes to player development?? There is something very wrong here. Skilled players are penalized bc the org prefers a gritty brute force style of player. But hear me out. NBB had the second best record in the OHL last season and lost in game 7 of the ECF (poor in game adjustments by the coaches cost them a spot in the Memorial Cup) and not one player off that roster was drafted in 2023. How can this be? There's only on answer that comes to mind, the org doesn't have a clue how to develop skilled players, they hold back the most talented kids, players make the same mistakes over and over, team chemistry wasn't great, puck support nonexistent, weak forecheck and no individual tactical development for anyone. The only two players that developed and only bc they got tons of ice time were Liam A towards the end of the year and Ty Nelson who played 25 minutes a game. How can the two most talented players Jackson and Petrov be utilized the least - they are both plus players and between them accounted for 150 points.

My advice to any young player deciding on whether to play in NB would be based on the type of player you are. If your skilled and truly offensive minded stay away from NB go to Mississauga, Barrie, SSM, London, Flint, Kitchener - these organization understand how to develop skilled players and prepare them for the next level. NB is where skill goes to die. The 2022 NHL draft was the only draft NB has had players drafted and all but one was drafted late. Buyer beware!!!!

Go to almost any other rink in the league and there's are walls acknowledging legacy players and their accomplishments but come to think of it, NB has had little to no success, So, more reason to highlight former players like Barclay Goodrow and Mike Amadio for winning the Stanley Cup. If I had a son good enough to play Major Jr Hockey it wouldn't be in NB I can assure you that.

So what do you think we are looking for in the upcoming Import Draft? Petrov has set the bar pretty high!!

The Battalion are set to pick #55 and #115 with Russian and Belarusian players unavailable. Good relations with NHL teams and/or agents and some good fortune will be needed to get players worth the expense of bringing in.
I wonder what the reason is for Lukin not returning. For player development and near future team needs, I can see the need to have Turley, Rismond, and Wilson among the top 7 D; but, there are a few OHL teams that could use him and willing to part with a 4th pick to acquire him.

Does anyone have any suggestions/guesses for overagers? I think Cap’n Arny and Christo might take 2 of the spots. My personal preference for the 3rd would be Pasquale Zito.

Imo, the Battalion will be in tough this year to be a playoff team but they should be good enough to be a bottom 4 playoff team. What's interesting is Liam A isn't on any opening day marketing material it's all Nelson, Dom, Wakley and Romani. My guess is both players are not coming back. I think NB will have Christo, Ertle, and Tarasavich. I could be totally wrong.

There backend will be average at best - top three are good but then there's not much after that. Turley and Kennedy didn't impress and I suspect Rismond will be below average for OHL play. Perhaps they should keep Hislop over Ertle or Tarasavich??

A friend close to the team told me he's home sick and wants to be with his girlfriend. I don't think hockey is that important to him. Turley, Rismond, Wilson and Kennedy is scary - NBB are in big trouble depth-wise on defense. Thanks god for Dom but I am not sure he can hold the fort this year. They have lost a ton of scoring and the backend is not deep enough to be competitive every night. Nelson will get his 27 minutes a night and Maturin being back full-time will be good and assuming Christo is back that gives them 1 good pairing and 1/2 another. They are losing over 125 goals and almost 300 poiints - who will make up that scoring? Wakley, Romani, Procyzyn??? That's a lot of offence out the door.

I presumed the Cap’n would be fairly sure of being a returnee. But I am definitely okay moving on from him. If Pasquale also isn’t available, I am in the Brayden Hislop camp, maybe pairing him with Christo. As far as a 3rd goes, I don’t know how much playoff performance factors in, but: Justin Ertel GP 20, G1 A5 Pts 6; Nik Tarasevich GP 19 G1 A4 Pts 5. These 2 might have been difference makers, and not in a positive sense. However, one or the other might thrive as an overager.

If the offer is too good to refuse, but t’s hard to believe Arnsby is not one of the Battalion OAs, even more difficult to imagine that Tarasevich is kept and not part of a line with VanSteensel & Arnsby.

Lukin wanting to play in Russia hurts. I think Turley and Kennedy will be ok though. It might be up to Rismond, import, Wilson or Enright to take the 6-7 spots and show that Hislop is not needed.
I’ll guess the OAs are Arnsby, Christopolous, & Ertel. I kind of like the idea of;
VanSteensel-Arnsby-Romani
Ertel-Wakely-Proscyzyn

Yeah, I read in a few places that Lukin was home-sick since my post.

Lots of 3rd & 4th picks and import pick for depth on D,. There are; Cajkovic & Kennedy born ‘05, Turley & Rismond born ‘06, and Wilson & Enright born ‘07. That is a lot of draft capital imo.
I think Richter, Panzii, MacQueen-Spence, Therrien, Amidovsky, and 1st pick Kostuch can be a decent bottom six.

I agree. Again, it's just my opinion, this team has lost all their top 6 forwards and I am not sure they have enough up and coming players to fill the roles of top 6. Romani is a nicely skilled player who can't play defense very well and hasn't had to play against the other teams top pairings or top lines. This team has always been made up of very individualistic type players. Outside of Jackson and Petrov all the other players seemed to care more about a high-light reel goal than playing as a team. Romani and Wakley are not puck distributors but will need to be offensive drivers. If Liam and Zito are back that will help up the middle but neither of those guys are true number one type centreman. I think Procyxyn will need to be a major contributor for this team to have any chance. The East will be tough this year. Ottawa will be as good or better than last year, Mississauga and Sudbury will be very good and Hamilton and Barrie as they are the best coached teams. I am very curious to see how this edition of the Battalion looks. Here are my predictions for the East Standings:

1. Ottawa
2. Peterborough (this will depend on 03 returning players such as Avon, Robertson and Simpson)
3. Sudbury
4. Mississauga
5. Barrie
6. Hamilton
7. North Bay
8. Oshawa
9. Kingston
10. Niagara
